Technical Sourcer (Contract)

Spacecraft represent the most pressing unmet need across the entire aerospace industry. As more launch vehicles come online and the cost to orbit decreases, more companies launching payloads to space continue to emerge.

For the first time in history, this influx of payload companies combined with reduced launch costs has resulted in a massive increase in need for commercial spacecraft platforms, known as satellite buses. These buses hold the payloads of our customers and are flown on launch vehicles.

About the Role

As a Technical Sourcer at Apex, you will drive top-of-funnel talent identification for the highly specialized engineering and technical roles that power our satellite manufacturing mission. On this six-month contract, you will partner closely with recruiters, hiring managers, and engineering leadership to build robust pipelines of hard-to-find talent across engineering, production, supply chain, business operations, and more.

You will own the sourcing strategy for a portfolio of technical requisitions, using creative outbound approaches to engage passive candidates in a highly competitive aerospace market. This is a hands-on, high-volume role for an experienced sourcer who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment and can move quickly without sacrificing candidate quality or experience.

This role requires deep technical sourcing expertise combined with the ability to rapidly learn complex aerospace and engineering domains and translate them into compelling, credible candidate outreach.

Responsibilities:

Talent Sourcing & Pipeline Development

• Build and maintain robust pipelines of qualified passive and active candidates for technical and engineering roles across Apex.

• Develop and execute creative, multi-channel sourcing strategies (LinkedIn Recruiter, Boolean and x-ray search, GitHub, technical communities, referrals, events, and niche aerospace networks).

• Identify and engage hard-to-find talent in specialized domains such as spacecraft systems, avionics, propulsion, GNC, structures, thermal, and flight software.

• Meet weekly sourcing targets for qualified candidates surfaced, outreach sent, and screens scheduled to keep priority requisitions fully covered.

Candidate Engagement & Screening

• Craft compelling, personalized outreach that articulates the Apex mission and converts passive candidates into engaged applicants.

• Conduct initial outreach and pre-screens to assess technical fit, motivation, compensation alignment, and availability.

• Manage candidate relationships and maintain a positive, responsive candidate experience throughout the top of the funnel.

Partnership & Intake

• Partner with recruiters and hiring managers to run thorough intake sessions and calibrate on role requirements, must-haves, and ideal candidate profiles.

• Provide market intelligence, talent mapping, and competitor insights to shape hiring strategy and set realistic expectations.

• Act as a talent advisor, guiding hiring teams on sourcing timelines and market availability for niche skill sets.

Data, Tools & Process

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date candidate records, pipeline status, and sourcing activity in the ATS (e.g., Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby).

• Track and report on sourcing metrics including response rates, conversion, and pipeline health.

• Continuously refine sourcing approaches based on data and feedback to improve efficiency and quality of hire.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of sourcing or full-cycle recruiting experience, with a strong focus on technical and engineering roles

• Proven track record sourcing hard-to-fill, specialized technical talent in a competitive market

• Expert-level proficiency with LinkedIn Recruiter, Boolean and x-ray search, and modern sourcing tools and techniques

• Experience partnering directly with technical hiring managers and running role intake and calibration

• Ability to quickly learn complex technical domains and translate them into effective, credible outreach

• Excellent written communication and candidate engagement skills

• Experience working within an ATS and maintaining clean, data-driven pipelines

• Ability to work onsite and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience sourcing for aerospace, defense, hardware, robotics, or other deep-tech / engineering-heavy organizations

• Familiarity with ITAR/EAR considerations and sourcing for roles requiring U.S. person status or security clearances

• Experience sourcing across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing)

• Background supporting high-volume or rapid-scale hiring

• Experience with modern sourcing and CRM tools (e.g., Gem, ZoomInfo, Ashby, Juicebox, LinkedIn Recruiter)
