Strategic Sourcing Business Partner, G&A

Compensation
$160,000–$190,000/year

Job Description

About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the Role

Anthropic is scaling faster than almost any company in history, and our General & Administrative vendor ecosystem is scaling with it. We're looking for a Strategic Sourcing Business Partner to lead complex commercial negotiations across G&A functions—Finance, Workplace, People, Real Estate, Policy, Legal services, and Security & Physical Security—and to help us build the sourcing function that this moment demands.

Our rapid growth has created an opportunity to rethink how we approach vendor partnerships across support functions. The best outcomes come from working creatively with vendors to design structures that align with our business model and growth trajectory. You'll manage vendor relationships across multiple functional pillars while building deep expertise in G&A sourcing and staying aligned with business unit and operational needs. The ability to effectively partner across Finance, People, Policy, Legal, Workplace, Security, and operational leadership—and to influence vendor solutions around our unique requirements—is a must-have.

You'll be building, not inheriting. The function is young and deal volume continues to grow. You'll roll up your sleeves on live negotiations from day one while helping create the playbooks, tooling, and processes that let us scale efficiently. We use Claude as part of our daily workflow and are seeking candidates that are able to help define what an AI-native procurement function looks like, including how AI may change deal-making itself over the next few years.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex commercial negotiations across G&A sourcing categories: Finance & Accounting services, Workplace solutions, HR/People operations, Real Estate & Facilities, Security & Physical Security, Policy & Legal services, and travel/entertainment
  • Lead high-stakes commercial negotiations for strategic consulting and managed services partnerships (Big 4 and emerging firms): strategy, deal structure, terms, SLAs, and executive alignment
  • Own sourcing strategy for assigned functional pillars, building a deep market view and translating organizational needs into vendor requirements and contract terms
  • Partner with Finance, People, Workplace, Legal, Security, and Real Estate leadership to understand requirements, benchmark solutions, and bring data-backed recommendations to decision makers
  • Design vendor structures and negotiate terms that account for our growth trajectory while maintaining operational continuity and cost efficiency
  • Build and maintain strategic vendor partnerships that compound over time: relationships strong enough to evolve with our business needs and help us navigate functional complexity
  • Manage vendor performance and contract execution across your portfolio, proactively addressing service gaps and renegotiating terms as needed
  • Work with Finance & Strategy on budget planning, vendor cost forecasting, and multi-year cost modeling to support organizational planning cycles
  • Develop and maintain vendor contract templates, redline standards, and communication protocols that scale the team's efficiency
  • Help build the function: develop sourcing playbooks, category strategy templates, and AI-powered workflows that raise the team's throughput and deal quality
  • Use Claude daily to enhance negotiation prep, contract analysis, and vendor communication

You may be a good fit if you

  • 7+ years of strategic sourcing, vendor management, or commercial negotiation experience in G&A categories (Finance services, HR services, Facilities, Professional services, Security, or similar)
  • A track record of personally leading complex, multi-million dollar negotiations to strong outcomes—not just managing the process around them
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple vendor relationships simultaneously and navigate competing priorities across functional partners
  • Strong analytical chops: TCO modeling, cost analysis, service level benchmarking, and the ability to find the real economics underneath vendor proposals
  • Ability to translate organizational requirements into clear sourcing strategies and negotiation positions, and translate vendor capabilities into business impact
  • The judgment to balance cost, service quality, and vendor relationships to build partnerships that last
  • Comfort operating at pace: managing a broad portfolio, ambiguity, and the bias to ship rather than perfect
  • Genuine fluency with AI tools in your daily work, and enthusiasm for rebuilding your own workflows around them
  • Clear, direct communication with internal stakeholders and vendor executives

Strong candidates may also have

  • Experience managing sourcing across multiple functional categories or vendors simultaneously
  • Track record at a hypergrowth company where you've had to renegotiate or redesign vendor relationships under changing business conditions
  • Experience in helping build or scale a sourcing function, not just operating within one
  • Deep knowledge of G&A vendor landscape and where it's heading (consolidation, AI adoption, service models, etc.)
  • Proven ability to influence vendor solutions and negotiate custom terms outside standard offerings
  • Background in finance, operations, or HR that gives you fluency with functional requirements
  • Experience developing vendor cost models and forecasting for multi-year planning

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
