Job Description
Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Executive Legal Assistant to the Staff Judge Advocate. Administer/manage the Federal Magistrate Court Program and assist the Victim/Witness Assistance Program Coordinator accomplish various duties to provide essential office automation support/production. Use knowledge of the capabilities/operating characteristics/advanced functions of a variety and/or different software types to improve the efficiency and/or effectiveness of operations.
Duties
1. Performs general law, administrative and clerical duties in support of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate.
2. Provides legal assistance support and guidance to clients. Screens clients to ensure eligibility for legal assistance. Composes powers of attorney, determining type required for the situation, and counsels client on use and legal consequences.
3. Provides paralegal support to the Staff Judge Advocate and other staff attorneys.
4. Assists with the Management of the Buckley SFB Federal Magistrate Court Program. Administers the Buckley SFB Federal Magistrate Court Program.5. Alternate and backup liaison to the primary VWAP Coordinator. Assists with informing victims of crimes on procedures to obtain assistance and on contacting various agencies.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, , Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NK-02, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-07 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas
1. Knowledge of rules, procedures, policies, and programs of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate to perform the procedural and administrative work of the organization such as preparing and editing legal documents and administrative correspondence, maintaining files and records, and assembling information for various legal documents and reports; knowledge of legal services and terminology in the area of claims, civil law, military justice, legal assistance, and legal research techniques; and knowledge of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and required legal formats and directives regarding preparation of written communications to produce legal and administrative documents and communications.
2. Knowledge of office functions to screen telephone calls and visitors, prepare and review correspondence, and perform other administrative work of the organization.
3. Knowledge of word processing automation software functions to support office operations and produce a variety of textual documents, such as letters, reports, memos, and form letters. ???????
4. Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required.
5. Ability to interpret and apply regulatory and procedural requirements to process unusually difficult and complicated transactions.
6. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
