Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Space Systems is hiring for a Manager Aeronautical Engineering – Level 1: Dynamic Environments – in our Mechanical Engineering team within the Launch Vehicles Business Unit at our Chandler, AZ facility.
This role with serve as both the functional manager, and one of the technical leads of the Dynamic Environments Team at Launch Systems (LS) in Chandler, Arizona. The team supports the development of a broad array of launch vehicle programs including space launch, MDA targets, and strategic defense. As a technical leader in the Dynamic Environments field the candidate will be responsible for guiding the development of environments such as random vibration, shock, and acoustics related to launch vehicle operations. This role will report to the manager of LS Mechanical Engineering Analysis.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for supporting direct reports with staffing assignments, training, technical reviews, and performance management (goal planning, quarterly reviews)
- Acoustic, random vibration, and shock analysis using appropriate classical and computer-aided techniques
- Preparation of results for oral presentations, and written reports
- Creation of finite element and/or statistical energy analysis models for use in dynamic simulations
- Generation of dynamics test requirements and the overall qualification test approach for avionics components and secondary structures
- Execution of vibration and shock testing across a product lifecycle: pre-test analysis, sensor selection and installation, testing, data analysis, model correlation, and results documentation
- Analysis of acceleration- and pressure-time history data from ground test and flight for use in vibroacoustic analyses
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and 5 years of related engineering experience, OR a Master’s in STEM and 3 years related experience, OR a PhD in STEM
- Ability to obtain a US DoD Secret Security Clearance, or higher
- Experience performing dynamic environments analyses
- Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with MS office, Matlab, Python, and Femap/Nastran
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active US DoD Secret Security Clearance, or higher at the time of application
- Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- Experience as a technical, or functional team lead
- Experience with vibroacoustic modeling (VA One / wave6)
