LEAD ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER
As part of a small, hardworking team of technicians and engineers, you will provide technical expertise and assist in the implementation of all environmental, health and safety programs at the Rocket Development & Test Site. The ideal candidate is highly skilled with both environmental and occupational safety fields, hands-on, and works well in a fast-paced environment. We work as a highly integrated team and job responsibilities will include helping other programs to ensure the overall success of SpaceX.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement and maintain regulatory and site-specific occupational safety and environmental policies by evaluating compliance and developing proactive measures to ensure compliance with the groups you are responsible for.
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees.
- Develop solutions to challenges that will improve workplace safety and advance the EHS program.
- Perform environmental and safety compliance due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with department leadership to proactively ensure regulatory requirements are met.
- Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
- Manage the day-to-day activities/priorities of the EHS team reporting to them which will include multiple EHS Engineers.
- Provide primary input for hiring, termination, promotion, performance and reward decisions for direct reports.
- Be responsible for administrative authority over direct reports.
- Review and approve Purchase Orders, manage operational budget.
- Provide training and guidance as needed to direct reports to ensure they have technical and administrative knowledge needed to implement an occupational health and safety and environmental program.
- Provide instructional guidance of job assignments, correct procedures and applicable techniques to perform specific skills; ensure accuracy and completion.
- Ensure that EHS policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, clients and stakeholders.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree.
- 4+ years of experience in design, development and general operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines or relevant engineering field.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety and/or environmental engineering.
- Strong communication skills and an aptitude and desire to lead people.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience in both environmental and safety fields.
- Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the McGregor, Texas area.
- Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed.
ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
- To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
