Software Engineering | Data Science internship: AI workflow development
Job Description
Introduction
The Business Intelligence and Analytics (BI&A) department supports ASML’s DUV and EUV business lines with data-driven insights that improve operational decisions. Within this department, one of our AI teams builds solutions that help end users work more efficiently by turning complex data into clear, actionable information. As the portfolio of initiatives grows, the team needs extra hands-on support to speed up data preparation, prototyping and model experimentation. This internship allows you to contribute to essential AI engineering activities while learning from experienced data and analytics professionals. You will help develop an end-to-end workflow that focuses on preprocessing data and validating a simple retrieval-augmented system.
Your assignment
You will join a team that develops AI solutions designed to give factory end users better understanding of issues and help them resolve them more effectively. You will work with data specialists and engineers who value clarity, collaboration and practical problem-solving. Your work contributes directly to ongoing AI initiatives that support critical business needs in a fast-growing portfolio. Your main responsibilities will be:
Integrating new data sources into the existing solution
Performing LLM‑based data preprocessing
Developing AI tools to identify similar issues and propose recommended actions
Validating the solution with end users
Writing technical documentation to support ongoing development
This is a master’ internship (non-thesis) with a minimum duration of 6 months. It requires an investment of 32-40 hours per week, out of which 2 days per week are onsite in Veldhoven. The start date is projected at the end of August 2026 (an earlier start from July onwards is possible).
Your profile
To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are pursuing a master’s degree in data science, computer science, software engineering or a related field
Have strong programming skills in Python
Are comfortable working with data preprocessing tasks
Have affinity with AI technologies
Are collaborative, proactive and able to explain complex topics in simple terms (using English at a professional level).
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
