The Airbus UpNext Optimate demonstrator will pave the way to smart automation capabilities by integration of new innovative bricks including computer vision and data fusion. The goal is to help the pilots and facilitate the mission.
The Artificial Intelligence integration for collaboration & Communication internship is within Airbus UpNext, will ideally begin in MARCH 2026 (date subject to flexibility), and will last for a period of 5 to 6 months (not exceeding September the 30th 2026).
Mission
Working directly with the software team, your mission will be to develop, train, and above all, integrate AI components into our demonstrator.
NOTAM Management: Pilots receive hundreds of often unreadable NOTAM (Notice To Air Missions) messages. You will develop a model capable of semantically analyzing these messages to tag them (Weather, Runway closed, Danger, Info) and prioritize them according to the flight plan.
Voice Interface (Speech-to-Text):
Implement a voice transcription engine (such as Whisper or an equivalent optimized version) capable of running on the Cloud and locally (Edge AI).
Goal: Allow for automatic transcription of radio communications from air traffic control.
System Integration: This is not just about writing Python in a notebook! You will need to port your models so they run on our architecture (C++/Python integration, containerization, CPU/GPU resource optimization).

What you bring:
Engage in Engineer Master’s degree in IA specialization, Data Science, On-Board systems or a related field
Frameworks IA : PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face (Transformers), spaCy.
NLP architecture Knowledge (BERT, LLM …)
ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) knowledge
Interest with Edge AI (ONNX, TensorRT, Quantization) techniques.
Strong Knowledge in Python mandatory
C++ ou Rust knowledge for integration purpose
Knowledge on Internet Of Things (IOT) and cloud technologies
Passion about technology, science
Eagerness to take initiatives to propose simpler and efficient ways of working
Impatience and burning desire to attain rapidly, along with a healthy skepticism for progress
