Industrial Engineering Internship: Reverse Decision Management
Job Description
Introduction
ASML aims to achieve net-zero supply chain emissions and zero landfill waste by 2030. If you have a green mindset and would like to use your technical skills in a circular supply chain environment, join our Reuse & Repair - Reverse Decision Management Team as an intern. We drive global repair, reuse, harvesting, and recycling of defect materials. Our goal: prioritize material re-use over buying new items. We drive smart reuse and enable quality reuse strategies at speed by fostering clear decision-making, aligning business logic, connecting parties and leveraging automated tools.
Your assignment
As an intern, you will help optimize our current global reuse decision process. Our decision model connects a large amount of master data, contains hundreds of decision nodes, and generates reuse advice (e.g., direct re‑use, repair, harvest or recycle) on regular base. In many cases, the final outcome is only reached after materials move through a sequence of investigation parties. Each party works on an agreed timeline to investigate the reuse feasibility. When a material has passed all action owners but still has no confirmed reuse decision, it is recycled as a last resort. This prevents inventory from accumulating unnecessarily. However, the key challenge is finding the right balance between timely recycling and maintaining flexibility to keep longer on stock. This internship focuses on developing a (material-based) structured risk assessment to support more conscious recycling decisions.
Exact scoping will be done in collaboration with you, but key deliverables include:
Improve the traceability and explanabiltiy of reuse decisions: Provide data insights that make the decision making process transparent and explainable. You will support in building a structured view of decision outcomes by tracing the end-to-end decision path: from data inputs, to our decision model advices, to action owner investigations, handovers, and the final outcome. Ultimately, you will be able to explain key decision aspects of the recycle decision outcomes.
This internship focuses on developing a recycling risk profile per material, with the goal of retaining high‑risk materials instead of recycling them. The model will incorporate drivers such as demand volatility, repairability, component scarcity, material value, and criticality. You will translate these inputs into a calculation model that leverages master data and historical decision databases to assess recycling risk.
Recommendations & roadmap: Provide recommendations on future enhancements and implementation areas to reduce recycling and improve first time right decision making.
This is a chance to apply your supply chain knowledge and data capabilities to make a real impact at ASML's reverse supply chain. You will work in a mixed team of planners and supply chain engineers; all committed to operationalizing sustainability end-to-end.
This is a Master (thesis) internship for a minimum of 5-6 months, for 5 days per week (at least 3 days onsite). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026.
