We deliver solutions that help our nation and allies defend freedom and deter aggression, creating a safer, more secure world. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.

At Raytheon, we are seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to serve as a Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) leading the build, integration, and execution of a critical-path opto-mechanical subassembly for a high-visibility program.  This is a hands-on role for an engineer who thrives in the lab, leads from the front, and has a track record of delivering complex hardware under demanding technical, schedule, and customer-driven environments.

What You Will Do

  • Lead a cross-functional team in the daily build, assembly, and integration of complex opto-mechanical hardware supporting a critical-path subassembly.

  • Drive execution across engineering, planning, quality, manufacturing, and program teams to meet technical, cost, and schedule objectives.

  • Coordinate and manage external suppliers and long-lead hardware, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with system requirements.

  • Oversee hands-on lab integration activities, troubleshooting issues and driving resolution during hardware build and assembly.

  • Lead daily execution planning (stand-ups) and communicate progress, risks, and recovery plans to program leadership.

  • Chair and drive Failure Review Boards (FRBs), non-conformances, and corrective action efforts to ensure successful hardware delivery.

  • Ensure hardware meets requirements through integration, test, and verification activities across the program lifecycle.

  • Support domestic travel (~20%) to supplier and program locations as needed.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience leading cross-functional hardware build, integration, or assembly efforts for complex engineering systems.

  • Experience working with opto-mechanical, electro-optical, or complex sensor hardware across the engineering lifecycle (design, procurement, build, integration, test, and delivery).

  • Experience managing complex hardware deliverables with external suppliers, including long-lead procurement and requirement compliance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience supporting optical or sensor-based hardware programs in aerospace and defense environments.

  • Experience leading or supporting Failure Review Boards (FRBs), non-conformances, and root cause/corrective action efforts.

  • Experience with system integration, verification, and validation activities.

  • Experience with mechanical design tools such as Creo and product lifecycle management tools such as Windchill.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to operate in high-visibility, customer-facing environments.

What We Offer

  • A total rewards package that goes above and beyond with compensation; healthcare, wellness, and work/life benefits; career development and recognition programs. Some of the benefits we offer include parental (including paternal) leave, flexible work schedules, achievement awards, educational assistance and child/adult backup care.

  • Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At RTX we value: Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, Innovation, and Safety.
