At Raytheon, we are seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to serve as a Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) leading the build, integration, and execution of a critical-path opto-mechanical subassembly for a high-visibility program. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who thrives in the lab, leads from the front, and has a track record of delivering complex hardware under demanding technical, schedule, and customer-driven environments.
What You Will Do
Lead a cross-functional team in the daily build, assembly, and integration of complex opto-mechanical hardware supporting a critical-path subassembly.
Drive execution across engineering, planning, quality, manufacturing, and program teams to meet technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
Coordinate and manage external suppliers and long-lead hardware, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with system requirements.
Oversee hands-on lab integration activities, troubleshooting issues and driving resolution during hardware build and assembly.
Lead daily execution planning (stand-ups) and communicate progress, risks, and recovery plans to program leadership.
Chair and drive Failure Review Boards (FRBs), non-conformances, and corrective action efforts to ensure successful hardware delivery.
Ensure hardware meets requirements through integration, test, and verification activities across the program lifecycle.
Support domestic travel (~20%) to supplier and program locations as needed.
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
Experience leading cross-functional hardware build, integration, or assembly efforts for complex engineering systems.
Experience working with opto-mechanical, electro-optical, or complex sensor hardware across the engineering lifecycle (design, procurement, build, integration, test, and delivery).
Experience managing complex hardware deliverables with external suppliers, including long-lead procurement and requirement compliance.
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience supporting optical or sensor-based hardware programs in aerospace and defense environments.
Experience leading or supporting Failure Review Boards (FRBs), non-conformances, and root cause/corrective action efforts.
Experience with system integration, verification, and validation activities.
Experience with mechanical design tools such as Creo and product lifecycle management tools such as Windchill.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to operate in high-visibility, customer-facing environments.

The salary range for this role is 145,600 USD - 276,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
