Manufacturing – Manufacturing – Production Engineer (Precision Mechanics) – Linkou
Job Description
Introduction to the job
ASML’s Production Engineer Team in Linkou supports the mature product portfolio—including PAS5500, YieldStar (YS), Reticle Handler (RH), and XT—with over 450 engineers across mechanical, precision mechatronics, electrical, software, and system specialties.
The team combines the strengths of Development & Engineering (D&E), Manufacturing, and Customer Support to ensure stable factory output, rapid issue resolution, and structural improvements across mature system generations.
As a Production Engineer (Precision Mechanics), you will focus on mechanical system behavior, precision motion assemblies, structural rigidity, tolerance-driven failures, vibration/coupling effects, and mechanical root-cause analysis impacting system performance.
This role is hands-on, system-oriented, and highly collaborative with D&E to drive structural solutions and prevent repeat mechanical issues.
Role and responsibilities
Mechanical System Troubleshooting & Analysis
Diagnose mechanical issues across PAS5500/YS/RH/XT modules, including precision stages, handlers, structural frames, bearings, flexures, linkages, brackets, actuators, and alignment mechanisms.
Perform in-depth investigations such as tolerance stack-up analysis, clearance/fit verification, torque behavior checks, thermal drift evaluation, friction/stiction assessment, and fatigue/wear pattern analysis.
Identify root causes involving misalignment, deformation, vibration coupling, assembly variation, mechanical instability, or loading inconsistencies.
Motion & Mechatronics Related Mechanical Issues
Analyze mechanical contributions to motion anomalies (position/velocity/acceleration behavior, following error, settling time).
Collaborate with S&C, electrical, and mechatronics engineers to interpret motion profiles, dynamic responses, mechanical resonances, backlash/compliance, and mechanical‑control coupling effects.
Support investigations into sensor/actuator mechanical interfaces involving mounting stiffness, interface design, alignment, and structural rigidity.
3rd-Line Engineering & Structural Fixes
Work with D&E on deep-dive mechanical investigations, structured root cause analysis (RCA), and validation of structural or design-related solutions.
Define clear mechanical problem statements when issues persist beyond 1st/2nd-line troubleshooting.
Review ECN proposals, verify mechanical design changes, and confirm effectiveness of implemented corrective actions.
Documentation & Diagnostic Improvements
Maintain and enhance mechanical drawings, assembly sequences, inspection procedures, torque guidelines, and mechanical diagnostic methods.
Identify gaps in mechanical diagnostics and propose new procedures, test steps, measurement tools, or workflows to strengthen troubleshooting efficiency and system reliability.
Create mechanical troubleshooting guides and lead diagnostic improvements across modules.
Production Support & Mechanical Stability Improvements
Ensure stable factory performance of mechanical modules across PAS5500/YS/RH/XT.
Lead DOE, measurement data analysis, structural validation, and mechanical hypothesis testing.
Evaluate mechanical design or process changes and quantify their impact on yield, robustness, stability, and issue recurrence reduction.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
Mechanical Engineering
Mechatronics Engineering
Precision Engineering
Automation / Manufacturing Engineering
or related disciplines.
Technical Background
3–5 years of experience in one or more of the following:

Motion system mechanics (bearings, sliders, flexures, stiffness, backlash)
Structural dynamics: vibration, deformation, fatigue
Mechanical failure troubleshooting in semiconductor, automation, robotics, or precision equipment
Core Mechanical Skills
Ability to read and interpret 3D CAD models and detailed mechanical drawings (NX/SolidWorks preferred).
Knowledge of tolerance stack-up, GD&T, torque control, mechanical fits, and assembly principles.
Understanding of motion mechanics, including thermal expansion, friction/wear mechanisms, stiffness, damping, and mechanical coupling.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for system-level mechanical failure analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with semiconductor equipment, automation machinery, robotics, or precision motion systems.
Hands-on experience with alignment processes, assembly fixtures, torque tools, or mechanical measurement instruments.
Familiarity with vibration diagnostics, modal behavior, structural stiffness evaluation, or experimental mechanics.
Exposure to ECN processes, structured RCA (5 Why, FMEA, Ishikawa), and reliability improvement projects.
Ability to design and execute controlled experiments to validate mechanical hypotheses and structural fixes.
