Field Service Engineer

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Primarily responsible for using technical product expertise to perform field service activities associated with Cymer equipment at customer sites. Field service activities include installing, maintaining, servicing, troubleshooting and repairing Cymer DUV lasers under end user environmental conditions. A Field Service Engineer represents Cymer to the customers with confidence and assumes accountability for customer satisfaction with service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyzes, diagnoses and troubleshoots laser equipment problems via telephone or at customer site.
  • Installs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on laser equipment at customer sites.
  • Travels as required to perform service activities at customer sites.
  • Provides technical training, guidance and assistance to less experienced field service engineers.
  • Completes accurate service and expense reports as defined in the respective process documentation.
  • Uses company technical documentation and provide feedback for improvement of the documentation.
  • Maintains an assigned installed base, provides primary support, forecasts, customer support meetings and day-to-day communication with the customer.
  • Standby duty on a rotational basis outside office hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with empathy and understanding of customer needs and business.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written) clearly and effectively in all types of environments.
  • Ability to positively manage high stress situations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision - using good judgement to resolve customer issues and escalates issues according to process.
  • In-depth knowledge to technically analyze complex opto/mechanical/electronic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot to the module level.
  • Ability and discipline to follow written procedures and recognize abnormal equipment performance.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot digital circuitry problems.
  • Ability to use electronic test equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Required: BS degree in electrical & electronics preferred. Diploma holder with 5 years experience in semiconductor industry will be considered.
  • Required: Advanced technical knowledge in optics, electronics (analog and digital), control area networks, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Required: minimum of 2 years experience in repairing and maintaining similar equipment and interfacing with customers.
  • Required: experience providing technical leadership and guidance to others.

LANGUAGE SKILLS -

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures in English is required. Ability to write reports, and evaluate procedure manuals in English is required. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, peers and customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, ratios, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • A Valid driver’s license and own vehicle are an advantage, but not mandatory.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to travel, via airline and automobile.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs as a regular job duty.
  • Must be able to successfully meet customer site access requirements.
  • Background checks

  • Cleanroom access (gowning and breathing apparatus)
  • Must be able to do physically repetitive and demanding work, lifting, carrying climbing, kneeling, squatting, twisting, bending standing, reaching, grasping and wrist/forearm rotation.

The work environment for this position is a highly specialized environment that is designed to keep airborne particulate minimized and all surfaces free from direct human contact. To work in this environment the Field Service Engineer will wear protective equipment, a smock or jumpsuit, gloves, foot coverings, head covering, eye safety equipment and in some cases air filtering equipment worn over the nose and mouth. The extreme nature of this protective attire could prove difficult for some people to work effectively; however the manufacturing process is such that there are no exceptions. The attire is not comfortable, restricts motion, restricts tactile sensitivity (for delicate hand movements) and can seem to be an obstacle to getting the job done.

English is the primary language; therefore, verbal and written language capabilities are a requirement.
