The role emphasizes high-reliability system design and technical leadership for controllable solid propulsion technologies such as divert attitude control systems. The engineer provides technical direction across programs and works closely with systems, mechanical, and propulsion teams to ensure electrical system architectures meet DoD and MDA performance, safety, and mission assurance standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as senior electrical engineering lead for hardware development on DoD and MDA programs involving controllable solid propulsion systems
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to electrical engineering teams throughout design, integration, and test phases
  • Define electrical system architecture and guide development of controller electronics, high-reliability interconnects, and sensor interfaces
  • Lead electrical design execution, technical risk assessment, and resolution of complex engineering issues
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical and electromagnetic standards including MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, IPC J-STD-001, IPC-2221, and MIL-PRF-38534/38535
  • Support architecture development and trade studies for divert attitude control system configurations and other propulsion systems
  • Lead mission assurance activities including FMEAs, fault tree analyses, and worst-case circuit analyses
  • Provide oversight for hardware qualification, EMI/EMC certification, and electrical test strategies with suppliers and test facilities
  • Prepare and review technical documentation including ICDs, test reports, and qualification packages
  • Represent electrical engineering at internal and customer design reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR)
  • Support integration and test campaigns including system bring-up and troubleshooting
  • Support proposal development and future program capture activities related to propulsion control and missile defense systems

Required Qualifications:

Experience

  • 15+ years of electrical hardware design experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, missile, or interceptor systems
  • Demonstrated experience leading electrical engineering teams through full hardware development lifecycle
  • Experience with actuation systems, propulsion controls for missiles or interceptors, and related subsystems including actuators and initiation systems
  • Experience supporting qualification of flight hardware to applicable military and aerospace standards
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Strong technical leadership and mentoring skills within electrical engineering teams
  • Advanced expertise in design and analysis of analog and digital circuits, including schematic creation and interpretation
  • Background in actuation system control, motor drive circuits, or power conditioning for missile systems
  • Skilled with Altium Designer, OrCAD, PSPICE, or similar schematic/layout and simulation tools
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, grounding/shielding, and EMI/EMC best practices
  • Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation and hardware verification methods
  • Understanding of safety-critical design practices including redundancy, fault isolation, and mission assurance
  • Ability to develop and present technical documentation to DoD and MDA customer standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • S. Citizenship required due to program security requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance; active clearance preferred
  • Familiarity with the DoD acquisition lifecycle, particularly for Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and other Department of Defense (DoD) programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead electrical engineering teams within a structured product development environment
  • Strong technical communication skills, including presenting complex engineering concepts to internal leadership and government stakeholders
