Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Aircraft Life Support Equipment (ALSE) Technician to be a part of our Spacewrench team to support our mission. The candidate must have a desire to learn something new, enthusiasm for the new space industry and be able to mix aerospace enthusiasm and experience with Spaceline ALSE development and maintenance. The crew’s safety will be ensured through the inspection, repair, and modification to the developed ALSE equipment.
Responsibilities
- Completes assigned integration, maintenance, preventive maintenance and repair work on the ALSE equipment including, but not limited to, parachutes, helmets, masks, comm equipment, oxygen systems, Personal Locator Beacons (PLB) and survival equipment.
- Checks, dismantles, adjusts, overhauls, repairs, fabricates, removes and installs aircraft based ALSE systems and standalone ALSE assets.
- Returns ALSE to service after maintenance had been performed as allowed by the Spaceline General Maintenance Manual (GMM), shall be required to complete and sign work records in connection with work performed.
- Works closely with Virgin Galactic (VG) maintenance leadership, pilots, trainers, doctors, designers and engineers to continuously improve systems, processes, and operations for our Spaceship and Launch Vehicle flight crew equipment mechanical and/or life support systems.
- Supports the training program definition and development with direct input of hands-on knowledge of ALSE via different mediums.
- Trains Pilots and maintenance (MX) crews as required on ALSE equipment and systems, including assisting in proper sizing, fitting and adjustment of ALSE.
- Develops and implement Planned Maintenance (PM) requirements for ALSE.
- Sets up, tracks, and executes maintenance for ALSE in the Maintenance Tracking System (Maintenance, Repair, & Overhaul (MRO), Ultramain).
- Assists with development of maintenance manual definition for ALSE systems and assets.
- Aids with the Spaceline GMM development and definition.
- Focuses on timeliness and execution of tasks and deliverables everyday.
- Works collaboratively to achieve goals and/or complete assigned tasks.
You may be asked to perform other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management.
Required Skills and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of ALSE maintenance experience and specialized training.
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license.
- Qualified to obtain Air Operations Area (AOA) access.
- Aircraft maintenance experience.
- Must be familiar with procedures applicable to the various phases of ALSE maintenance.
- Ability to work under pressure in fast paced environment.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Willing to travel and be on-call and work any shift as required.
- Demonstrates initiative in pursuit of company goals and values with safety at the core of all endeavors.
- Seeks out diverse perspectives and helps one another win.
- Holds themselves and one another accountable for getting the work done.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- A valid Federal Aviaition Administration (FAA) approved Airframe and Powerplant license (A&P License).
- Valid FAA approved Parachute Riggers Certification.
- Proficiency with maintenance tracking (Maintenance, Repair, & Overhaul (MRO), Ultramain) software.
- Commercial passenger operations experience.
- 2 years of college level education.
Physical Requirements
- Works all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position – 8 hours minimum.
- Physically able to handle items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds (unassisted).

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $53,040.00–$72,665.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
