The Engineering Applications Department (EAD) is seeking a UI/UX Designer & Developer to create world-class user experience for complex space systems. We develop cutting-edge visualization tools from sophisticated web and desktop applications to immersive experiences, that transform complex engineering data into intuitive interfaces for critical decision-making in civil, commercial, and national security space programs.
ISCD staff leverage cutting-edge information system technologies, including elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and advanced visualization frameworks, combined with expertise in software architecture, AI, and cybersecurity to deliver high-performance systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD, and civilian customers.
You will work closely with product experience designers and other engineers to translate customer needs into innovative design solutions.
Work Model -
This is a full-time position based in Chantilly, VA, which requires 100% onsite work.
What You’ll Be Doing
Build responsive, accessible, high-performance front-end interfaces with exceptional attention to detail
Develop and implement intuitive user experiences for advanced visualization products to enhance data analysis and decision-making processes
Partner with developers, engineers, scientists, and stakeholders to align vision and deliver cohesive solutions
Foster innovation by staying current with emerging technologies and industry best practices
What You Need to be Successful – Member of Technical Staff – System Software Engineering
Minimum Requirements for the Member of Technical Staff – System Software Engineering:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Design, or related STEM discipline
At least 2 years of experience in frontend development
Proficiency in TypeScript and modern web frontend frameworks and libraries such as React, Angular, or Vue
Demonstrated ability in user research, usability testing, rapid prototyping, and accessibility
Proven ability to present complex concepts to diverse audiences, from engineers to executives
This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
In addition to the above, the minimum Requirements for the Senior Member of Technical Staff – System Software Engineering include:
4+ years of experience frontend development
Proven experience in architecting visualization software solutions
Leading team discussions and code collaboration to promote continuous progress
Participating in client, industry, and end-user discussions to help provide technical viewpoint on the application
Experience leading an Agile development team using Atlassian tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket, SourceTree, etc.)
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
Master's or Ph.D. in HCI, Computer Science, Design, or Human Factors
Experience with rapid prototyping tools and methodologies
Proficiency with Blender, Maya, 3DS Max, or equivalent modeling tools
Excellent interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of customers and staff
Experience building and maintaining large-scale design systems
Previous experience working with aerospace or defense industry clients
Current DoD Secret or TS/SCI clearance

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
