We’re proud to be recognized as one of Israel’s Top 50 High-Tech Companies to Work For in 2025 (Dun & Bradstreet) and offer a flexible hybrid work model from our Rehovot office.
We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer to join to join our Cloud WAF R&D group (Application Performance).
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for an engineer who brings genuine passion, a “can-do” mindset, and the discipline to translate complex, ambiguous problems into resilient production-grade services—at cloud scale.
Our team develops cloud services that orchestrate, manage, and optimize website performance when it matters most. You will design and deliver modern SaaS capabilities (including Waiting Room and CDN Management) using backend and cloud technologies, with a consistent focus on availability, performance, security, and engineering quality.
This role is well-suited to engineers who enjoy building large-scale services, value strong engineering practices, and are motivated by protecting customers and their users. We operate with high standards, clear collaboration, and a bias for action. We also make intentional use of AI-assisted engineering for design exploration, implementation support, test generation, refactoring, and reviews, to increase delivery velocity while strengthening code quality, reliability, and maintainability.
You will contribute to high-impact initiatives and have meaningful influence on architecture and technical direction, working closely with cross-functional partners across R&D. We offer a collaborative environment, high engineering standards, and the opportunity to adopt modern technologies and practices—while delivering with accountability and pride. The team operates in a hybrid model that combines a strong on-site culture with the flexibility of working from home.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, optimize, test, and deploy distributed, highly available microservices at scale.
Own features end-to-end: from requirements and architecture through production rollout, observability, and continuous improvement.
Build for quality by default: automated tests (unit/component/contract), performance considerations, secure coding, and strong CI/CD practices.
Lead by example through code/design reviews, mentoring, and raising engineering standards across the team.
Leverage AI coding assistants responsibly to accelerate delivery and improve design, readability, and maintainability.
Requirements:
B.Sc. in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of backend development experience, with strong Java expertise.
Proven experience designing large-scale features, applying design patterns, and working with distributed architectures.
Hands-on AWS experience.
Leadership mindset: mentoring, setting a high bar, and taking ownership.
Self-motivated, fast learner, independent, and proactive—bring a true “can-do” approach.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Proficient in using AI coding assistants responsibly to improve solution quality, accelerate development, and support effective reviews and testing.
Advantage: Spring Boot, containerization, and Kubernetes.
Thales, champions inclusion and we believe diversity strengthens the fabric of our culture. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, colour, religion, national origin, disability, protected Veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law.
