Product Safety Specialist
About the job:
Safety engineering is an important and integral part of the development process of our high-end products and composite systems.
The Thales safety specialist has the task of analyzing how to ensure the safety of our systems for end users and the on-board maintenance people. Environmental aspects are also taken into account throughout the life cycle of the complex systems we develop.
We currently have 25 specialists in the field of safety engineering. As a product safety specialist, you become the first point of contact for the product safety of one or more radar systems or for another product developed in Hengelo. You will not only cover electrical and mechanical safety, but also, for example, functional safety and environmental safety.
You will be involved in the quotation phase so that you can determine how legislation, standards, policies and customer requirements affect the safety aspects of the system to be developed. In the specification phase, you start the hazard analysis and record the first safety-related requirements. During the design phase, you will continue with the risk assessment, provide requirements for the product, define mitigations and make recommendations to designers, the product team and project management to bring the design safety risks to an acceptable level.
There is a natural linkage between safety requirements and all kinds of other design considerations, but it is up to you to stand up strongly for a system that must meet the safety acceptance criteria. You will continue the actions until delivery of the product to the customer and you will ensure that the burden of proof for product safety is complete. At the end of the development you have created a complete safety case dossier.
Thales delivers to customers around the world in different complexity, your playing field is very diverse. You will be faced with both specific customer requirements and generic product requirements. You work with engineers from other disciplines like electrical, mechanical, software and IVVQ engineers during design, development, testing and qualification of Thales systems. Furthermore you work with other safety colleagues, project managers and sometimes directly with the customer or with engineers from other Thales sites or subcontractors. Tenacity, persuasiveness and pragmatism are not strange to you.
