The Optronics Technician will undertake maintenance and through life support on a variety of complex Opto-electronic systems that come through the Optronics Service Centre (OSC). The Optronics Service Centre (OSC) in Rydalmere, provides the commonwealth critical in-country through life support for their fleets of Hand-Held Thermal Imaging Cameras, Laser Range Finders/Designators and Vehicles Sighting Systems

Be hands on and possess strong technical problem-solving skills;
Apply sound time management principles to ensure delivery schedules are achieved; and
Ensure that key activities are performed accurately and safely.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Optronics Technician, you are accountable for:

  • Performing complex opto-electronic service and maintenance operations in accordance with manufacturer’s procedures and service workflows;
  • Applying technical problem-solving skills to identify the root cause of faults and remediation required;
  • Ensuring the correct technical documentation are prepared for all products;
  • Adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a safe working environment;
  • Ensuring appropriate material management and controls are applied;
  • Participating in continuous improvement activities;
     

KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:

  • Ability to follow work instructions and apply technical problem-solving skills to resolve issues and faults in opto-electronic equipment.
  • Focussed on meeting deadlines with good time management and prioritisation skills;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of both the immediate team and cross-functional teams, supporting collaboration to achieve common goals
  • The ability to work on own initiative when required

GOOD TO KNOW
Prior to being offered employment, you will need to complete pre-employment police and (role dependent) medical checks. Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain NV1 security clearance.

In some cases, individuals who hold a current clearance from a foreign government may be eligible to have this clearance recognised by the Australian Government and be eligible for this role.

The Australian Defence Trade Controls Act (DTCA) is applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role. The U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR) are applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
