
Material Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for a Material specialist with focus on definition, development, characterization and evaluation of materials for space application.
The candidate will operate strongly linked to the Material and Infrastructure solutions discipline and interface with R&D department but also with the Agencies and external Customers, therefore she/he shall have peculiar attitude to innovation, solving problems, communication skills, pro-active attitude to manage new initiatives and inclination to team working.
She/he has to have a solid cultural base material science and advanced characterization techniques field such to be able to define and manage the characterization plans as well as perform test results evaluation.
Key duties:
- Definition of material development plans such as per composite synthesis, surface coatings, innovative nanostructured materials
- Definition of quantitative-qualitative characterization tests on materials taking into account space quality standard
- Coordination of validation tests including conducting tests at material and demonstrator level
- Organization and follow-on of laboratory activities in R&D projects and running programs
- Project follow-up, writing of qualification programs, synthesis of supplier/laboratory tests and redaction of conclusion reports
- Propose and qualify materials and processes (including documentation: standards, specification, testing reports & manufacturing instructions…)
- Participation to progress meetings and project reviews preparing the required technical documentation and answer/discussion of customer RIDs
- Able to capitalize on best engineering practices and propose recommendations and improvements
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes and material characterization techniques as Raman, FTIR, RGA, laser flash diffusivity, DSC, TGA, SEM-EDX, contact angle), dilatometer, Optical microscopy
- Master degree in Chemistry or equivalent
- Experience working as a researcher
- Able to manage multiple tasks at one time
- Organized and methodical with strong communication skills
- High team working capabilities and customer orientation
- Good will in facing and learning new things
- Experience on Additive manufacturingis considered a plus
- Fluent English (spoken and written)
- Available for business travels in Italy and abroad
- Attitude towards innovation and problem solving
