Your mission
Thales Belgium Hardware Products Department – Competence center – is responsible for R&D activities related to radios HF band (1.5 to 30 MHz) equipment as well as aeronautical and tactical vehicle calculators and communication devices that contribute to the Thales Group portfolio. As such, this Department leads the work for architecture, research and development, integration, validation, qualification and industrialization of Thales HF tactical products.
In this context, the Digital Hardware Engineer will take on the responsibility of designing and developing digital circuits in various domains such as cryptography, radio, power control and signal processing.
Your Responsibilities
- You will be responsible for the design and development of digital products from concept to production. This includes analysis of customer specifications, sub-system and detailed design. You’ll define the PCB schematics and guide the layout engineer, validate prototypes, perform design integration and qualification, and follow up the design into production.
- Your field of activities will be centered on digital electronic systems design, ranging from simple embedded microcontrollers to high-end FPGA based systems.
- You’ll work in close collaboration with the Mechanics, Layout, Component , Embedded Software and FPGA design engineers.
- You’ll develop new skills, for designing HF/RF products.
- You will work inside an enthusiastic pluri-disciplinary engineering team which will give you the opportunity to evolve and enlarge your competence.
- Your work will be performed considering high level international standards and in-house quality procedures (ISO and Civil Aviation standards).
We are looking forward to
- Master’s Degree in electronics-telecommunication or equivalent.
- Practical experience with board design, analogue and digital techniques, FPGA’s and embedded software is an advantage.
- You have an analytical mind to be able to decompose system level requirements into component level specifications.
- Analyze customer needs and determine the requirements, capacity, and cost for developing products.
- Design, develop, analyze, and test new and existing electrical products to specifications provided by the customer and marketing.
- Design the digital hardware that can be used with either analog, digital, or mixed-signal technology.
- Responsible for new product development tasks, including breadboarding, circuit simulation, electronic test procedure documentation, and lab guidance of product testing.
- Ensure electronic designs meet industry standards and regulatory compliance.
- Creating analog and digital circuits, ensuring signal integrity and optimal performance.
- Knowledge of boundary scan testing is an advantage.
- Knowledge about reliability and design robustness analysis, such as MTBF and MTTF calculations, Worst case, Part stress, Failure Mode analysis, is an advantage.
- Knowledge about Signal Integrity is an advantage.
- Strong problem solving, debug and failure analysis skills with a solid understanding of core engineering principles.
- Hands-on laboratory work including using oscilloscope, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers and other test equipment.
- Strong communication skills required, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms across different management levels.
- Ability to work in team. Taste for international contacts. Manifest the flexibility needed to be integrated in the different stages of a project.
- Good knowledge of English is required. In addition, the candidate should preferably be fluent in French and/or Dutch.
