
Cloud Database Administrator (DBA)

We provide identity and access management services to thousands of customers worldwide. To be able to cope with the continuous customer growth, current and future challenges and business needs, Thales has decided to hire a talented Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) based in Ottawa, Canada, who will take responsibility of our IAM Cloud Database Services in order to support this complex state-of-the-art solution. This role will provide you with the opportunity to learn the latest IT solutions and security concepts, within a like minded supportive talented team.
Special Position Requirements
Work schedule: Usual Core Business Hours – Mon-Friday + taking part in the IAM CLOUD DEVOPS on-call rotation using follow-the-Sun schedule.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Support and troubleshoot all applications to ensure our cloud services is optimized for performance and reliability.
Analyze product requirements and identify the best database solution, technology, and tool.
Ensure database consistency of the projects by resolving any constraints.
Develop a database installation and upgrade script, which is part of CI/CD.
Provide workload estimation of customization, features, and component-level.
Forecast, inform risk/concern on task, team, or project level, and propose mitigation plans.
Provide technical solutions, support, and perform several activities for a new or customized database of products/components used in the project which includes but is not limited to database design, installation, upgrade, migration, backup, recovery, failover, HA, hardening, monitoring, etc.
Review other DevOps code as necessary.
Orchestrate and optimize the database activities of several databases, schemas, and components in one project or solution.
Manage system/network configuration and monitoring.
Strategize and plan for data migration, and develop a data migration script if required by the project.
Support, investigate and propose solutions/workarounds for production issues related to the database.
Provide documentation as appropriate including design documentation, comments in code, and end-user documentation
Consult with other technical team members and management on industry best practices.
Maintain and enhance internal tools
Provide input to improve the scalability and reliability of infrastructure to our Automation Architects
Deploy and assist with the maintenance of automation technologies
Participate in the on-call schedule & Provide L2/L3 Support to our Services desk and R&D teams
Document all build and run procedures when implementing new automation technologies.
Socialize designs with team and integrate suggestions and changes as appropriate.
Basic Qualifications
8+ years’ experience in deploying and supporting web-based applications with relational and NoSQL databases.
8+ years’ experience in Cloud Native database technologies, including RDS, Aurora, CloudSQL, Cloud Spanner, MongoDB, etc.
8+ years’ experience in deploying and supporting different flavors of Cloud databases, including MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elastic Cloud etc.
8+ years of experience with orchestration and automation tools (Helmcharts, Ansible, Terraforms, Yaml, Python, Json)
8+ years’ experience in SQL programming/scripting, bash scripting, etc.
Experience in configuring and maintaining different database replication methodologies.
Good Hands-On Understanding of AI concepts and usage of AI in daily operations to speed up the work and productivity
Strong interest in performance and security. Involvement in application server deployment, including System setup, monitoring, and Network configuration
Understanding of operational concepts like change management, on-call rotations, escalations, uptime, etc
Experience in managing production systems on a very large scale.
Experience with security-relevant protocols
Deep understanding of one of the major OS families (Linux or Windows)
Adhere to security best practices from design to implementation and operations
Experience with PaaS technologies (K8s, OpenShift, etc.)
Experience with building pipelines for Infrastructure as a code using Terraform
Ability to work in an extremely geographically distributed company

The reference Total Target Compensation(TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) 114,400 – 143,000 CAD Annual.
This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many.
