The role of the Contract Manager is to work directly with the Project and Bid teams regarding contract negotiations and tender outcomes. Specifically, the Contract Manager is responsible and accountable for overall management of the two prime contracts and associated work orders for new scope, management of technology and intellectual property and confidential data, and also contributes to project delivery status reviews.
 

The role is part of the Legal, Contracts and Compliance (LCC) team in Thales Australia. The role is on a permanent full-time basis.

Applicants must hold Australian Citizenship and be eligible to meet defence security clearance requirements.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Contract Manager, you are accountable for:

  • Leading contract negotiations with customers and subcontractors to establish mutually beneficial agreements that align with Thales’ goals and objectives, with an emphasis on early stakeholder engagement, scope development, planning and strategy.
  • Supporting Bids for new work scope for existing Projects by drafting and reviewing the commercial documents to support opportunities including review of RFTs and commercial input into Tenders.
  • Working with Project Managers to proactively identify and manage potential contractual risks, challenges and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to continuously monitor and analyse project budgets and expenditure to identify areas of improvement or potential profitability erosion.
  • Working directly with the business and project teams, to provide high quality and timely commercial and contractual advice to key stakeholders, interpreting the contract and scope of work for the project and the rights and obligations of Thales and the other parties, and ensuring all parties adhere to the agreed terms and conditions.
  • Anticipating and addressing any potential changes in project scope, timeline or profitability.
  • Preparing contract artefacts such as contract notices, contract claims, contract change proposals (CCP), routine IP and related deeds and licenses under the contracts. Stakeholder Communication
  • Maintaining strong relationships with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and other stakeholders to foster effective communication and resolution of any issues that may arise.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all contract related activities including correspondence, agreements and amendments.
  • Generating regular reports and providing updates to senior management regarding contract compliance, risks and any areas of potential dispute.

KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in contract management in complex and high value contract environment, preferably in ICT or high technology defence environments.
  • Knowledge or experience working with ASDEFCON bids and contract negotiations.
  • Thorough understanding of project delivery principles, contract law, pricing and business acumen
  • Excellent client liaison and people management skills.
  • Demonstrated advanced negotiating, analytical, financial and numeracy skills.
  • Successful track record in the provision of contract support that has facilitated the delivery of successful project and business outcomes

GOOD TO KNOW
Prior to being offered employment, you will need to complete pre-employment police and (role dependent) medical checks. Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain Baseline security clearance.

In some cases, individuals who hold a current clearance from a foreign government may be eligible to have this clearance recognised by the Australian Government and be eligible for this role.

The Australian Defence Trade Controls Act (DTCA) is applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role. The U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR) are applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
