Job Overview

We are seeking a mid-level Information Architect to support the Mission Training team by organizing, structuring, and clarifying complex technical content across instructional design projects. This role focuses on improving how system information is organized, visualized, and delivered within training programs to enhance usability, comprehension, and operational performance.

The Information Architect works closely with instructional designers and subject matter experts to translate engineering-heavy content into clear, task-aligned learning structures that support mission readiness.

Responsibilities:

Content Organization & Structure

  • Organize complex system information into clear, logical learning pathways.

  • Develop content outlines, structural templates, and standardized naming conventions.

  • Create and maintain content hierarchies for training modules, system documentation, and performance support materials.

  • Support version control and content updates as systems evolve.

  • Develop taxonomies, content models, and metadata frameworks for training assets.

  • Standardize naming conventions, content hierarchies, and structural templates across instructional projects.

  • Establish standards for organizing and versioning training materials as products evolve.

  • Ensure alignment between documentation, training materials, and system updates.

Instructional Design Support

  • Partner with instructional designers to align content structure with learning objectives and performance outcomes.

  • Break down technical concepts into digestible, learner-centered formats.

  • Sequence content to support scenario-based and performance-based training.

  • Ensure consistency across training materials and modules.

Visual Information Design

  • Develop diagrams, workflows, process maps, and system overviews to clarify relationships and dependencies.

  • Support the design of UI simulations and backend system representations for training.

  • Improve visual clarity and reduce cognitive overload in training materials.

LMS & Knowledge Integration

  • Support the organization and discoverability of content within the LMS.

  • Assist in tagging, categorizing, and structuring digital learning assets.

  • Help ensure training materials remain aligned with system documentation and updates.

Continuous Improvement

  • Gather feedback on content usability and clarity.

  • Identify structural gaps or redundancies in training materials to support operational tempo and mission readiness.

  • Recommend improvements to streamline information flow and learner experience.

Qualifications:

  • 3–6 years of experience in information architecture, instructional design, technical writing, UX, or related field.

  • Strong ability to organize and structure complex technical information.

  • Experience supporting instructional design projects or learning programs.

  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and performance-based training.

  • Experience working with technical SMEs in engineering, defense, aerospace, maritime, or related industries preferred.

  • Proficiency with diagramming or visual modeling tools (Lucidchart, Miro, Visio, Figma, etc.).

  • Experience with LMS platforms and digital learning tools preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in DoD or defense-adjacent environments.

  • Background in UX, human factors, or systems engineering.

  • Experience supporting simulation-based or technical systems training.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

  • Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally.
