Our Advanced Technology (AT) SBU Engineering Team is hiring an Associate Director Mechanical Engineer to support an Advanced Air Weapon System program as the Air Vehicle (AV) Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL), with Mechanical Cross Product Team Lead (CPT) responsibilities. The AV IPTL is responsible for providing leadership for all Air Vehicle Non-Recurring and Recurring tasks to ensure system delivery per the program plan. This position will lead a multi-disciplinary team to design, analyze, build, integrate, and test the AV hardware. This role requires close collaboration with Supply Chain for material procurement and the management of AV suppliers, ensuring adherence to both technical and cost/schedule parameters. The position demands execution expertise coupled with the ability to lead a high-visibility development program.
The AV IPTL role requires proactive and effective collaboration and communication across the program, including with members of the Chief Technologist Pyramids, technical subject matter experts, the Program Management Office, the Office of the Chief Engineer, and appropriate Customer stakeholders. Additional responsibilities of the Mechanical CPT Lead aspect of the role include ensuring all MPT-related scope across the program is executed per the program plan, with a cohesive technical approach, a drawing release plan, and compliance with MPT robust execution practices. This is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.
What You Will Do
- Provide the technical execution leadership required to design, develop, integrate, test, verify, qualify, and deliver an AV that complies with performance requirements and Design-To-Cost targets.
- Maintain cost and schedule responsibility for the IPT, Sub-IPTs, sub-tier suppliers within the AV IPT, and the MPT budget across the program. Report business metrics to both program and functional leadership, including Estimates at Complete (EAC).
- Communicate with both RTX leadership and the Customer community to provide program status, accomplishments, issues, and support requests.
- Manage and influence the Sub-IPTs to ensure program alignment and teamwork, including collaboration across all program IPTs and CPTs, such as Engineering, Operations, Mission Assurance, and Global Supply Chain.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to all team members.
- Demonstrate extensive experience in task leadership and AV design, analysis, build, integration, test, and HAR processes.
- Leverage strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage multiple and competing priorities.
- Work under minimal supervision, often in a project management role, overseeing the entire AV team within this effort. Show the ability and willingness to direct and review the work of others.
- Actively identify, manage, and mitigate risks, as well as capture opportunities.
- Utilize strong prime material procurement experience, including knowledge of material planning.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience.
- Experience in Air Vehicle design and/or production, integration, assembly, test, checkout and/or verification.
- Experience managing teams in a technical capacity.
- Experience using program management tools such as Earned Value Management System (EVMS), Integrated Master Plan (IMP) / Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and Risk and Opportunity Management systems to identify issues and develop recommended courses of action to management.
- Previous experience as a Cost Account Manager (CAM).
Active and transferable U.S. government issued SECRET security clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain special program access prior to start. U.S. Citizenship is required as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Master’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or related field and a minimum of 15 years of prior relevant experience.
- Experience managing large teams in a technical capacity.
- Active Top Secret Clearance (Department of Defense).
- Experience with Missile Defense Agency customers and/or associated contractor executives and technical leadership.
- Experience with leading development and maintenance across multiple program sites.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven ability as an Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL) able to drive design and development across the hardware, software and test organizations.
- Program Management certification or experience.
- Excellent presentation and proposal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.

The salary range for this role is 157,200 USD - 298,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
