Head of Strategic Finance
Job Description
About Pluto
Pluto is building the financial infrastructure for superintelligence. Compute is the bottleneck of the AI economy, but it is extremely opaque, volatile, and difficult to finance. Pluto is the first exchange with a materially complete designation from the CFTC to make compute a liquid, tradable asset class.
This is a chance to build the defining financial asset class of AI from the ground-up.
The Role
This is a dual-mandate role. You will serve as the financial backbone of a pending CFTC-designated clearinghouse and exchange (DCM/DCO) and own everything that a regulated entity requires from a financial controls and accounting standpoint while functioning as our senior strategic finance partner for the compute side of the business: structuring GPU reservation contracts, managing relationships with neoclouds, and building the financial architecture that makes compute a tradable, financeable asset class.
Responsibilities
Clearinghouse and Exchange Finance (DCM/DCO)
- Own all financial reporting, accounting, and internal controls required of a CFTC-regulated DCM/DCO, including net capital computation, financial resource requirements, and regulatory capital buffers
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling across the exchange and clearinghouse entities; own the monthly close and board reporting package
- Oversee cash flow management, treasury operations, and capital structure — ensuring the firm maintains required financial resources under CFTC Core Principles at all times
- Serve as the primary finance interface with the CFTC, NFA, and external auditors; own the annual financial statements and any required regulatory filing
Strategic Finance and Compute
- Structure and negotiate GPU reservation contracts with neoclouds, evaluating committed tier pricing, utilization assumptions, and break-even economics against our clearing price index
- Build the financial models that underpin our yield management business: reserved input cost vs. clearing price spread, utilization curves, margin at various pool compositions, and sensitivity to on-demand price movements
- Partner with founders on capital raises, investor reporting, and any structured financing tied to upstream compute contracts
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field; MBA, CPA, or CFA strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge of financial reporting, GAAP accounting, internal controls, and financial statement preparation
- Experience managing capital structure, liquidity, and cash flow at a company where financial resource adequacy was a board-level concern
- Familiarity with regulated financial entity finance, either with an exchange, clearinghouse, bank, broker-dealer, etc.
- Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills; comfortable building from scratch, not just maintaining inherited models
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience at a neocloud (CoreWeave, Nebius, Lambda, or comparable) in a finance, strategic finance, or FP&A capacity
- Relationships with infrastructure-focused credit lenders, banks, or debt capital markets teams that have financed compute or data center assets
- Understanding of GPU economics: reserved vs. on-demand pricing tiers, utilization dynamics, hardware depreciation curves, and how AI demand cycles affect capacity pricing
- Prior experience at a CFTC-regulated entity (DCM, DCO, FCM) or financial infrastructure company (exchange, clearinghouse, payments)
- Background in yield management, capacity markets, or commodity trading finance
What We're Looking For
- Someone who can interface with neoclouds, lenders, and regulators simultaneously
- A builder: this is a 0-to-1 finance function; you will establish the accounting systems, controls, and reporting infrastructure, not inherit them
- Genuine interest in compute markets and AI infrastructure, not just the financial wrapper around them
