Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Engineer Manufacturing Level 4 (with emphasis on machining in a CNC environment) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
The selected candidate will support process design and respond to production issues related to aircraft manufacturing (composite assembly, metallic assembly, and subsystems). This position is located at our Clearfield, Utah facility. Want to work on the cutting edge of aerospace? Come join us!
Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling. Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout. Designs sequence of operations and specify procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance. Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality. Develop manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Ensures processes and procedures follow regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews developed or new processes for manufacturing in a machining environment.
- Identifies process improvements, captures feedback from Operations and Machine Control (Programmers), and incorporates into the manufacturing machining process
- Create and release Software Change Requests when needed
- Creates PRD’s for new cutters and insures a Kanban is setup afterwards
- Reviews design changes for Details, Machining Fixtures (MRF’s) and Specification changes and ensures they are captured in the manufacturing , machining process
- Reviews, modifies and performs redlines in the planning work instructions for the machining processes
- Promptly responds to technical issues that arise on the production floor utilizing work instructions, setup sheets, design models, and specifications
- Clarifies work instructions for Operations and provides modifications as needed
- Leads multifunctional teams to solve production issues, i.e. Tooling, Quality, Metrology, Operations, etc.
- Documents issues and disseminates information to core manufacturing engineering disciplines for incorporation into future releases
- Resolves issues by collaborating with other resource groups and stakeholders as needed
- Gets involved in MRB repairs and special processes to assist Operations as needed
- Assume roll of SME in PFMEA and RCCA investigations
- Assists Machine Control with proper cutter, holder, cutter speeds and feeds, for proper machine program development
- Assists Maintenance with annual machine calibrations and machine recovery
- should be available for off-hour calls
Basic Qualifications
Sr. Principal Engineer Manufacturing
- Bachelor’s in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) field with 8 years of experience in the following engineering fields; Manufacturing, Productions, Industrial, Mechanical, Process, Systems, OR Master’s in STEM field with 6 years of experience in mentioned fields as an engineer OR; PhD in STEM field with 4 years of experience as an engineer in mentioned fields.
- Experience in Aerospace manufacturing with emphasis on machining in a CNC environment
- Currently have an ACTIVE Secret DoD clearance within 5 ½ years of last investigation
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR) clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with aircraft assembly of composite, aluminum, and titanium components
- GD&T experience in aircraft manufacturing
- Liaison / Floor production engineering experience
- Experience in manufacturing engineering or design engineering, machining and shopfloor support
- Project leadership experience
- Work instruction planning experience
- Experience with composite layup and curing processes
- Experience with formal root cause and corrective action processes (PFMEA, Fault Tree, 5-Why, etc.)
- Fluent with PDM, MRP, and EWI business systems
- Proficiency with NX11 or higher
- Preference given to individuals with a machining background
- Preference will be given to individuals already cleared and accessed to Special Access Programs
