Develops theories for understanding, characterizing and organizing natural phenomena into a systematic and meaningful pattern for research into potential new products or inventions. May participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
Specific responsibilities include:
Support the Missile Products Business Unit in the development and implementation of technology and intellectual property strategies to secure and foster position as supplier of choice for solid rocket motors and warheads
Develop partnerships with Government, academia and commercial entities to support technology development and transition to production
Prepare development and test plans for proposals, investment efforts and programs of record. Serve as a senior advisor to cross-functional teams performing propulsion system and warheads development
Develop strategies to address obsolescence, increase propellant & energetics manufacturing throughput, and enhance cost performance of propulsion and ordnance products
Conduct regular interface with key suppliers and partners working in concert with Supply Chain and Business Development personnel
Support program efforts in the development, qualification and sustainment of propellants, explosives, airbreathing fuels, bondliners, insulation and composites
Basic Qualifications:
Master's Degree in a STEM discipline; 14+years experience with Masters; 12 with a PhD
Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
Experience in bridging technical and business strategy to drive transition of next generation technologies
Experience in formation of Government-industry and industry-industry partnerships
Experience leading Research and Development organizations, to include building high performance teams
Experienced in patents and intellectual property strategy
Demonstrated technical knowledge of materials science/engineering, chemical synthesis, polymers, and catalysts
Mentor employees and lead investigations and product/process improvement efforts
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Sciences or Engineering discipline
Experience in the area of Energetic Materials and Specialty Chemicals
Propellant and/or explosives development and processing experience
Demonstrated business acumen and international collaboration experience
Experience in agile processes and building differentiation through technology, automation and commercial best practices
