At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems (26-036) to join our talented and diverse team. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, monitor the battle collectively, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and throughout all flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations globally and regionally to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate current and future missile defense system capabilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Will conduct requirements elicitation through behavioral artifacts like use cases, which help both in understanding and communicating the required behaviors and system performance

  • Assist in developing and reviewing interface documents, system requirements, Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM), architectural documentation, and engineering estimates, as well as conducting both formal and informal engineering reviews

  • Ability to adapt quickly and support different tasks on short notice

  • Work will be carried out under the guidance of the C2BMC Systems Engineering Manager, the Product Owner, and the Core Systems Engineering team lead, supporting various project engineers

  • Work will also coordinate with team members, C2BMC management, and government clients to ensure delivery of high-quality products on schedule and within resource limits

  • Adhering to DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and serving as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts as required

  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems and specialty engineers to develop solutions, with a background in all aspects of the systems development life cycle

  • Regularly engaging with internal and external customers and representing the organization to resolve complex technical problems related to specific projects

  • Must have experience in requirements elicitation, including the use of behavior diagrams as an analysis tool to understand and decompose requirements

  • Must have a solid understanding of systems engineering processes and principles, along with proven experience in applying them to develop product solutions

  • Must have experience interacting with customers to elicit requirements and with stakeholders to convey an understanding of the intent of the requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, including the ability to clearly articulate technical methods and findings. Also capable of writing and executing engineering plans within a project

  • Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering is highly preferred

  • Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
