Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Section Manager 2 to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. The selected candidate will be supporting the functional homeroom in execution to their respective statement of work in the Material Test Department as part of the Systems Integration & Operations Engineering Directorate.
The selected candidate will manage a Materials and Processes (M&P) laboratory. The position will be located onsite in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will spend 80% of their time balancing technical tasks and laboratory operations and the remaining 20% of their time supporting functional homeroom tasks.
Functional Homeroom
Section manager duties include attending functional staff meetings, management of personnel (performance review, direction & coaching), and coordination of job assignments, staffing, recruiting and developing CRAD/IRAD projects and process improvement. The selected candidate will:
• Provide leadership and direction to section members including day-to-day support for the operation of the functional organization
• Actively commit to employee development and engagement
• Develop and maintain strong team
• Maintain adequate staffing to support variable work statement for current and future
• Manage employee performance (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers)
• Coordinate with programs to ensure appropriate staffing actions are developed and executed relative to their section
• Ensuring their employees are familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools
• Resolving critical/urgent program/technical issues
Technical and Lab Operations
The selected candidate should understand materials, chemistry and mechanical engineering and have knowledge of composite fabrication, polymer & adhesive application, surface treatments and coatings, physical testing, and failure analysis. Experience in these areas is preferred, but not required. Technical and lab operations tasks include:
• Support of program-direct tasks based on the candidates laboratory background
• Perform scheduling, prioritizing of workload, technician and engineer tasking and technical oversight of the work product
• Ensuring laboratory operations are performed safely and in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and Northrop Grumman ethics and policies
• Perform budgeting, cost estimations and capital asset planning
• Provide technical oversight for the section and directorate as required
• Promote knowledge management and documentation including process development and desktop work instructions
• Communicate clearly and frequently with team members, customers, and applicable stakeholders to meet customer requirements and expectations
• Support Parts, Materials, and Processes Technical Discipline initiatives

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 9 years of engineering experience OR Masters of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 7 years of engineering experience.
- Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance
- Ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance with current or previous access to Special Programs.
- Strong leadership qualities, strong verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to manage and leverage various communication styles.
- Experience in laboratory environment and/or laboratory management
