Rocket Center, WV is located along the North Branch Potomac River in Mineral County, West Virginia and is home to the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL), a government installation operated by Northrop Grumman. Ballistic Analysis Engineers work in the exciting and challenging world of tactical propulsion. Responsibilities center on, but are not limited to, the use of a variety of computer simulation tools to predict, optimize, and monitor the performance of solid rocket motor designs. Foundations in math, physics, and thermodynamics are essential; knowledge of propulsion, computer skills/programming (MATLAB, FORTRAN, Solid Modeling, Excel, etc) are all highly desirable.
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Support project objectives by performing design, analysis, and support of test activities with the guidance and direction of senior engineers.
- Use in-house developed software to analyze and predict pressure, thrust and other performance variables for propulsion designs
- Provide technical assessments of results and provide recommendations and justifications for design modifications
- Report analysis results in written and oral formats
- Perform anomaly evaluation and conduct special studies
- Provide innovative solutions to solve technically complex and challenging problems
- Interface with internal/external customers and with support personnel in design and testing

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a team
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
Basic Qualifications for a level 2:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- 2 years of related work experience or a MS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
Basic Qualifications for a level 3:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- 5 years of related work experience or 3 years with a MS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Skills related to statics, dynamics, fluids, thermodynamics, rocket propulsion, computer skills/programming (MATLAB, FORTRAN, Solid Modeling, Excel) are all desirable.
- Working knowledge of rocket propulsion
- Leadership & teamwork capabilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment
- Experience developing and delivering presentations and leading small groups
- Able to work in an autonomous work environment on complex projects
- Experience working on business or engineering full life-cycle projects from project inception through launch
