
Material Master Data Expert (m/f/d)
Job Description
Mission Brief
Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and strategic usability of material master data across the enterprise, enabling seamless operations, compliant processes, and data-driven decision‑making across Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Finance, and Sales.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Data Governance & Quality
- Establish and enforce data governance standards, rules, and validation frameworks for all material-related data objects.
- Maintain high daa quality by identifying inconsistencies, duplicates, and gaps; coordinate corrective actions with business stakeholders.
- Define and implement harmonization strategies across plants, business units, and global regions.
- Material Master Maintenance
- Oversee end-to-end creation, extension, change, and archival of material master records in SAP (MM, PP, SD, FI views).
- Drive continuous improvement of maintenance processes, templates, and workflows.
- Ensure data accuracy related to material types, units of measure, classifications, BOM relevance, procurement type, valuation, and sales attributes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the central point of expertise for material master topics across Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Procurement, and Finance.
- Partner with IT/SAP teams on enhancements, automation concepts, system upgrades, and master-data-related testing.
- Translate business requirements into standardized master data setups
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements (REACH, RoHS, export control, hazardous materials, serialization, etc.).
- Reduce operational risk by ensuring completeness and correct assignment of critical fields (e.g., MRP parameters, valuation classes, batch management).
- Data Strategy & Optimization
- Analyze data usage patterns and recommend data model improvements to streamline operations and reduce complexity.
- Support digitalization initiatives such as data migration, S/4HANA transformation, catalog standardization, automation (MDG, workflows, RPA), and master data analytics.
- Provide insights to improve material lifecycle management from creation to discontinuation.

- Structured, process‑driven working style with a focus on quality and compliance.
Qualification Checklist
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in information systems, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in SAP product ownership, solution architecture.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA and related modules is essential.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep understanding of SAP Material Master (ECC or S/4HANA), including:
- MM, PP, SD, WM/EWM, FI views
- MRP configuration and planning parameters
- Classification, batch management, procurement types, valuation
- Understanding of data models, data architecture, and relational structures
- Experience with MDG, workflows, automation tools (RPA), or SAP BTP
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as:
- Excel / Power Query
- Power BI / Tableau
- SQL (even basic)
- Experience with data migration (LSMW, BAPIs, BDCs, SAP Migration Cockpit)
Spoken Languages:
- Proficiency in English is essential.
- German language can be beneficial depending on the organization's need.
Bonus Skills
