Robotics Operations and Triage Engineer- Stretch
Job Description
The Stretch Grasping Intelligence team is looking for a motivated, high-energy engineer to serve as the "eyes and ears" of our perception and machine learning systems. In this role, you will be the first line of defense in ensuring our robot remains the most capable warehouse automation solution in the world. You will bridge the gap between real-world warehouse incidents and our core engineering team, performing deep-dive failure analysis and building the metrics that define our success.
What You’ll Do:
Monitor & Triage: Actively track incoming incident tickets, faults, and other system alerts from Stretch robots deployed at customer sites and for internal testing.
Robot Forensics: Perform failure analysis by diving into logs to inspect data such 3D point clouds, images, or robot models to determine why a box was dropped, why the robot paused, or why a collision occurred.
Build the "Scoreboard": Develop and maintain dashboards (e.g. JIRA, Looker, Tableau) that track key performance and reliability metrics and inform engineering planning processes.
Reproduce Failures: Work with our robots, testing facilities, and tools such as simulation to reproduce failures, validate fixes, and strive for continual improvement.
Collaborate: Partner with robotics engineers to understand our systems and turn observed failures into new requirements or algorithm tweaks.
We’re Looking For:
The Right Attitude: You are hungry to learn the internals of a world-class robotics stack. You enjoy getting your hands dirty with messy, real-world robots and data.
Technically Curious: You likely have 1–3 years of industry experience or high-impact internships and a degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Data-Diver: You don’t shy away from digging into logs and are excited by the challenges of scaling. You are comfortable navigating C++ and Python codebases in a Linux environment.
Detail-Oriented: You notice the small anomalies in a sensor stream, subtle errors in the robot’s internal models, and seemingly minor regressions in key performance metrics that others might miss.
Communicator: You can take a complex technical failure and summarize it clearly for both technical leads and project managers.
Nice To Have:
Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) or visualization tools (RViz, Foxglove).
Familiarity with basic Perception or Machine Learning concepts (Computer Vision, Object Detection).
Previous experience in a Support Engineer or similar role within a hardware/robotics context.
We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.
The base pay range for this position is between $116,479 to $160,158 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental vision, 401(k), paid time off and a annual bonus structure. Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment.
