Boston Dynamics is seeking a creative and proactive Junior Engineer to join the Atlas End Effectors Team to contribute to gripper development. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern on the Atlas program you will design mechanical parts and assemblies, build and test prototypes, and perform experiments to validate design improvements. In this role, your tasks will range from working on individual components to full gripper assemblies.

Day to Day Activities:
Work within a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to design and support complex robotic gripper systems
Contribute to various stages of the development process including:
Iterative concept stage prototyping
Assembly and test fixture design to support efficient build and validation testing
Design and release parts and assemblies using Catia CAD software
Planning and performing prototype hardware testing
Troubleshoot issues, perform root cause failure analysis and design/implement corrective actions to sustain existing products
Develop and maintain support documentation including bills of material (BOMs) and detailed part/assembly drawings
Support system design analyses, including reliability, DFM / DFA, and cost-reduction
Desired Education & Skills:
Current student enrolled in a Bachelor Degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Robotics Engineering
Passion and interest for robotics and mechanical design
Experience using 3D CAD tools (Solidworks, Catia, etc.) including simulations (FEA) and generation of detailed 2D drawings
Hands on ability to independently fabricate, assemble, and troubleshoot components and systems
High level of technical writing proficiency (specs, test plans, reports, white papers, etc.)
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Nice to Have:
Experience with Python, LabView, or MATLAB
Experience designing injection molded plastic parts
Exposure to ASME drafting standards including GD&T, (Y14.5-2018)
Experience designing motion control systems with sensors, actuators and mechanisms
Demonstrated internship experience designing and developing mechanical parts and assemblies for product applications (consumer, industrial, medical)
