The Boeing CompanyBoeing is seeking a Structures Lab Test & Evaluation Engineer, to work in the Structures and Mechanical Test (STR) capability as part of the Structures Test Laboratory team located in Berkeley, MO. The STR capability supports structural, mechanical and material properties test programs for all Boeing Divisions, including Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA), Boeing Defense Security (BDS), and Boeing Global Services (BGS). This position will support the lab test teams by engaging in test conceptualization, test design, test planning, test fixture procurement/build oversight, and test execution for Boeing products.
As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on the latest military weapons and aircraft programs, such as: T-7A Redhawk, MQ-25A Stingray, various Phantom Works programs, various Boeing Weapons programs, and our legacy programs like F-15 and F/A-18 into the future.
The STR Test team supports structural and mechanical tests ranging from material testing, airframe component testing to full-scale airframe static and fatigue testing and full-scale weapons lab testing. The ideal candidate should work well under pressure, have excellent all around communication skills, leadership, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and be very detail oriented. There are additional opportunities to work with other test laboratories and capabilities within the company and develop unique solutions for structural and mechanical test design and test operations that solve challenging engineering problems.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate and Experienced Level Structures Lab Test & Evaluation Engineers.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide support to a test program under general direction
Train other early career engineers in engineering best practice and structures testing principles
Gather test requirements, develop test procedures, design and analyze test fixtures, leads in the fabrication and setup of the tests, and leads in the test conduct phase
Coordinate with the business partner, team members, shop (touch-labor) personnel, and other support personnel
Use knowledge in structural design, CAD systems, and stress analysis concepts, including test techniques and advanced hydraulic operations to design test fixtures and organize test operations
Exhibit a high degree of mechanical aptitude, which includes an understanding of 2D design drawings and manufacturability, producibility and reliability of test hardware designs
Use communication skills and work with various integrated and cross-functional teams in situations that require significant judgment and decision making
Work with a test team throughout the structural test design, fabrication, test integration and test conduct lifecycle
Integrate test fixture assemblies per design best practices, Boeing safety requirements and customer requirements
Track, Document and produce internal test reports on assigned testing projects
Work with lab personnel to lead efforts to troubleshoot test fixtures, test equipment, instrumentation and test article issues
Present data to internal teams and business partners during design process reviews and test readiness reviews
Analyze test data to ensure test readiness and data validity
Conduct research in test technologies to improve lab efficiency and capability
Interface with other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement test engineering solutions
Help to lead in the current and future direction of the Boeing Structures Testing capability across the Boeing Enterprise
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
2+ years of experience with 3D computer aided design, 2D Drawing creation and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance
1+ years of experience with structural testing, mechanical testing and/or flight testing
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Level 3: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
A currently active U.S. Secret Clearance
2+ years of experience with 3D Design software, such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks and/or CATIA
2+ years of Experience with lab hydraulic control and power systems
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering
Experience conducting structural stress analysis on 3D part designs for use in test applications
2+ years of experience designing, implementing and conducting structural or mechanical lab testing
2+ years of experience directly supporting flight/lab test operations, or similar environment
2+ years of experience with instrumentation and/or data acquisition systems
2+ years of Experience with precision test, measurement devices, and sensor selection
2+ years of Experience with lab hydraulic control and power systems: servos, actuators, load cylinders, manifolds
Experience with sensors including accelerometers, strain gages, thermocouples, load cells, and LVDT/Temposonic devices

Summary Pay Range for Associate Level (Level 2): $85,000 – $115,000
Summary Pay Range for Experienced Level (Level 3): $103,700 – $140,300
