Company:
The Boeing CompanyBoeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Mobility, Surveillance, and Bombers (MS&B) Engineering team has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager (Level K) located in Tukwila, WA; or Oklahoma City, OK; leading the daily execution of MS&B Safety Management System (SMS). This pivotal role will report directly to the MS&B Division Chief Engineer/Engineering Vice President (VP) and will play a crucial part in shaping SMS strategies and initiatives across the division.
This position will be responsible for the daily execution of the MS&B Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices. This role is essential for fostering a culture of safety and airworthiness within the organization, and it requires strong collaboration with various functional partners, including Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, and Program Management.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead Execution of MS&B Safety Management System (SMS): Develop, implement, and maintain the SMS in accordance with regulatory requirements, Boeing policies and industry best practices on behalf of MS&B SMS Board
- SMS Administration: Serve as a member of the MS&B SMS Board and act as the SMS Administrator
- Strategic SMS Development: Drive continuous improvement initiatives for MS&B products and services while ensuring compliance with safety regulations
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks associated with the MS&B integrating safety risk management into all phases of the programs across MS&B
- Safety Assurance: Conduct safety audits, inspections, and assessments to ensure compliance with safety standards. Analyze safety data and trends to inform decision-making and promote continuous improvement
- Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, and Program Management teams to ensure safety considerations are integrated into all aspects of the program.
- Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver safety communication and training program(s) to enhance safety awareness and promote a positive safety culture
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all applicable safety regulations, including FAA 15 CFR Part 5 and UK MAA Regulatory Article 1200. Prepare and submit necessary documentation to regulatory authorities as required.
- Safety Investigations: Lead investigations of safety items, including Speak Up reports, ensuring thorough analysis and implementation of corrective actions
- Reporting: Prepare and present safety performance reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics, trends, and areas for improvement.
This position is expected to be 100% on-site. The selected candidate will be required to work on-site at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and present to internal and external executive level leaders
- Demonstrated cross-functional Engineering management
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Master's or Doctor of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
- Experience with aviation safety (e.g., Systems Safety, SMS, Crew Resource Management, Maintenance Resource Management)
- Understanding of safety management systems, risk management principles, and regulatory requirements (FAA 15 CFR Part 5, UK MAA Regulatory Article 1200, etc.)
- Experience in collaborating with senior-level executives and managing complex operations
- Familiarity with international stakeholders and export control regulations
- Experience with Program Management Best Practices (Risk, Issue, and Opportunity Management, Enterprise Standard Gated Process, Baseline Management, etc.)

Summary pay range: $130,900 – 204,700
