This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.In this role you will be responsible for leading the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of fluid systems for rockets! You will engage in all levels of the design cycle including conceptual design, requirements definition, thermo-fluid modeling, structural layout and analysis, integration, test and mission support. You will use creative thinking and novel manufacturing solutions to solve complex problems with high pressure, cryogenic, and highly stressed hardware.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design fluid component hardware to meet cost, performance and schedule constraints.
- Design and route complex fluid subsystems (e.g., pressurization, pneumatics, propellant utilization)
- Devise and execute the development, procurement, and qualification of your hardware.
- Work with fluid components (e.g., solenoid valves, pneumatic valves, pressure regulators, pressure vessels, instrumentation, etc.)
- Work closely with other groups to manage physical and functional interfaces, resolving discrepancies at an accelerated pace while managing risk
- Good project management skills are vital, including supplier management, scheduling, and supporting production
- Work with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis programs (ANSYS Preferred)
- Deliver completed designs using drafting best practices, GD&T standards, along with clear and well-documented analysis reports
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent
- 5+ years of professional engineering experience with complex fluid systems
- Experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicles in the detail design of aerospace or equivalent type fluid systems and components
- Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, tubing, pressurized hardware, flex elements, seals, fittings, etc.
- Proficiency in drafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Experience with solid modelling, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and configuration control of engineering artifacts and documentation
- Familiarity with fabrication techniques, integration processes and quality control relative to tubes/piping, machined components, and welded hardware
- Working knowledge of material properties and treatments
- Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting mechanical and/or pressurized fluid systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a rapid hardware development environment
- Proficiency in Creo
- Component testing and hardware qualification experience
- Experience with design for reliability, low cost manufacturability, assemble-ability, operability
- Experience with thruster systems
- Experience with cryogenic systems
- Experience with marine environment corrosion mitigation (materials and coatings selection)
- Experience performing stress analysis
Compensation Range for:
CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85 WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20Other site ranges may differ
