POSITION SUMMARY

Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic AI&T Technician, SME who primarily be responsible for aiding the Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) team with the assembly of flight hardware destined for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) per technical work instructions while ensuring the highest level of quality. We are looking for an individual who is motivated, passionate about space, and excels at problem solving. The ideal candidate should be accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working in a cleanroom on flight hardware while leveraging their experience and skills in several relevant technologies.

Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic AI&T Technician, Life Support SME who primarily be responsible for aiding the Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) team with the assembly of flight hardware destined for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) per technical work instructions while ensuring the highest level of quality. We are looking for an individual who is motivated, passionate about space, and excels at problem solving. The ideal candidate should be accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working in a cleanroom on flight hardware while leveraging their experience and skills in several relevant technologies.  The candidate will have extensive knowledge of Life Support systems and vacuum chamber testing procedures.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read and accurately interpret engineering models, blueprints, wiring diagrams, assembly prints, and schematics.

  • Take initiative to clarify uncertainties, and in cooperation with engineering and other technical staff, resolve and/or correct issues as appropriate.

  • Operate machines or use hand tools and power tools to secure parts in place.

  • Setup and operate a wide range of precision calibrated tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, depth gauges and optical measuring instruments.

  • Support engineering with diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical spacecraft assemblies from component level to full spacecraft build.

  • Support engineering with various component-level and flight vehicle check outs including leak and system checks.

  • Support payload handling and integration operations that include handling of spacecraft assemblies.

  • Operate material/hardware handling equipment including – but not limited to – forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, trailer tugs, and other ground support equipment as required.

  • Perform spacecraft lifting and handling operations utilizing various slings and other mechanical lifting components per procedures and safety guidelines.

  • Perform assembly and checkouts of various ground support equipment related to all spacecraft operations.

  • Collaborate with Engineers and/or teams of diverse skills and backgrounds to develop and document activities such as assembly work instructions.

  • Setup new production work areas, including tooling and equipment.

  • Perform routine maintenance functions such as daily clean-up of work areas to support 5S, FOD, clean room, and safety guidelines.

  • Consistently apply written, verbal, listening and visual media and skills as appropriate to ensure accurate communication.

  • Communicating project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership.

  • Implementing and maintaining agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Perform additional job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Industry certification, trade school training and/or degree in related field preferred

  • 15+ years of professional experience working in the aviation or aerospace industry in a technical, hands-on capacity working with test, flight and safety critical hardware assemblies that require high attention to detail and quality of workmanship

  • Experience in at least one of the following:

  • General Aerospace/Spacecraft/Aircraft/Launch Vehicle/Ship manufacturing, assembly, and fabrication (ideally in a clean room environment)

    • Piping and tubing routing and installation

    • Test facilities/rig fabrication, operation, and maintenance

    • Instrumentation and electrical harness routing, installation, and checkout

    • Electrical, Mechanical, and Fluids Ground Support Equipment (GSE) operation

    • Pressure systems

    • Electrical and avionics systems

    • Welding (orbital preferred)

  • Some experience in handling large aerospace components and assembling large tight-tolerance structures

  • Familiarization with metallic and non-metallic hardware assembly

  • Basic computer skills with knowledge in Windows, Microsoft Office, etc

  • Must be proficient in the use of various tools and equipment such as torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers

  • Able to abide by all Axiom and other contract safety requirements

  • Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

  • Uses good judgement to problem-solve proactively, positively impacting hard challenges

  • Demonstrated organization skills to meet tight deadlines with high quality results

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements 

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position

  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)

  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)
