Physics | Engineering internship: particle bouncing

ASMLVeldhoven, 5501, NLInternship

Job Description

Introduction

In the group of Wafer Defectivity at ASML, we try to minimize the amount of dust particles deposited onto silicon wafers, which can result in the final product: the computer chip (partially) not working. We search for the particle sources in our NXE system and find structural solutions so that issues do not reoccur.

Your assignment

In this assignment you will support the team in the field of particle bouncing to better understand the particle transport and trapping in our products. Your responsibilities will be theoretical work, simulations, and possible experimental activities.

Your tasks may include:

  • Identifying technical gaps and contributing to improvements of the existing particle bouncing model;

  • Supporting potential experimental work aimed at validating simulation results or exploring specific mechanisms.

  • Conducting data analysis and evaluating the findings;

  • Reporting out the results to several stakeholders within ASML for technical decision making;

  • Collaborating with several stakeholders and supporting senior engineers.

This is a Master internship for 4 to 6 months, minimum 4 days per week (3 days onsite). This internship is not suitable for a thesis project. The start date is as soon as possible.

Your profile

To be a match for this project, you:

  • Are busy with your Master's in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Applied Physics;

  • Are comfortable with theoretical and experimental work and simulations;

  • Have good coding skills in Python and C++, and possibly MATLAB;

  • Are self-driven and intrinsically motivated for this internship;

  • Have an analytical mindset and good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;

  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
