Mechanical Engineering | Industrial Engineering internship: exploring use cases for inspection cobot
Job Description
Introduction
The P&PM Automation and Digitalization team explores new technologies that can improve quality, efficiency, and traceability in ASML’s manufacturing processes. The team evaluates solutions used by suppliers and investigates challenges on the shop floor that may benefit from automation. As part of this work, the team is introducing its first automated inspection cobot to assess how robotic inspection can support production. This internship will help validate the system and determine where it can strengthen or replace manual inspection tasks. You will contribute to shaping future inspection methods within ASML.
Your assignment
You will work with a new automated inspection cobot that is being tested for use in ASML’s high-tech manufacturing environment. You will explore how well the cobot detects contamination and mechanical defects, and you will assess where robotic inspection can support existing workflows. You will collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to identify opportunities and understand practical constraints. Your main responsibilities will be:
Develop and execute a structured validation plan for the automated inspection cobot
Test repeatability, robustness, and detection performance on real ASML components
Assess detection accuracy for scratches, contamination, discoloration, or mechanical deviations
Identify system limitations and propose improvements
Explore potential use cases with stakeholders across the organization
Evaluate workflow impact and operator interaction for each use case
Document findings and create recommendations for future deployment
This is a bachelor’s or master’s internship (non-thesis) for a minimum of 5 months, 32–40 hours per week (practical work fully on-site; test plan work 2–3 days hybrid). The start date of this internship is project at the end of August 2026, but an earlier start date is possible.
Your profile
To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, mechatronics, or a related field
Are interested in robotics, automation, or machine vision
Work in a structured and clear way when reporting findings
Are proactive, self‑driven, and enjoy hands‑on problem solving
Are confident in communicating and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Other requirements you need to meet
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to be able to perform your internship. In case you ‘re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
