Manufacturing – Technical Support Senior Competency Engineer (Optics) – Linkou
Job Description
Introduction to the job
The Manufacturing – Technical Support Senior Competency Engineer (Optics) plays a critical technical leadership role within YieldStar (YS) manufacturing operations in Linkou, with a primary focus on optical systems, optical modules, and optical sensing behavior. This role serves as the key technical authority for optics-related system behavior, troubleshooting strategy, and technical decision-making across mature ASML product portfolios, including YieldStar, PAS5500, Reticle Handler (RH), and XT.
The position focuses on system-level optical performance, optical sensing, calibration robustness, optical alignment sensitivity, and optical module behavior that directly impact factory output, quality, and delivery performance.
Acting as a technical control tower, this role integrates inputs from Development & Engineering (D&E), Manufacturing, and Technical Support teams to drive structured problem-solving, manage high-impact and recurring disturbances, and deliver clear, management-ready technical conclusions.
This role does not manage direct reports, but carries strong technical ownership, influence, and decision responsibility in complex, cross-functional, and escalation-driven environments.
Role and responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Optics-Focused System Decision-Making
Lead optics-related technical assessments during daily passdown, DRB (Disturbance Review Board), and escalation meetings.
Serve as the technical decision owner for complex optics-related issues, including imaging behavior, illumination stability, sensor accuracy, and calibration performance.
Consolidate technical findings, risks, and recommendations into clear conclusions to support management alignment and operational prioritization.
Issue Ownership & Troubleshooting Management
Own high-impact, recurring, and long-duration optics-related disturbances across YieldStar manufacturing lines.
Coordinate cross-functional resources including D&E (Optics, Mechatronics, Software & Control), Manufacturing Engineering, Technical Support Engineers, and Production Engineers.
Identify escalation triggers, risk exposure, and containment actions to minimize machine downtime and prevent issue recurrence.
Structural Analysis & BKM Deployment (Optics)
Perform structural analysis to identify systemic gaps in optical design, calibration methods, diagnostics, or manufacturing execution.
Drive the development, validation, and deployment of Best-Known Methods (BKM) related to optical alignment, calibration, sensing, and diagnostics across product lines.
Ensure optics-related improvements are standardized and sustainably implemented.
Technical Coaching & Competence Development
Provide technical guidance and coaching on optics-related troubleshooting methodology and system-level behavior understanding.
Act as a technical reference for optics topics, supporting peers and management teams in complex decision scenarios.
Strengthen cross-line optics competence through knowledge sharing and structured problem-solving practices.
Operational Alignment & Technical Communication
Deliver concise, management-ready technical reports, escalation packages, and decision summaries focused on optics-related risks and impacts.
Represent manufacturing optics expertise in English-based escalation and alignment meetings with global stakeholders.
Ensure transparent, professional communication across production, engineering, and support organizations.
Cross-Line Integration & Factory Target Support
Leverage optics insights from YieldStar manufacturing lines to prevent repeated disturbances across systems and factories.
Respond rapidly to customer feedback, quality notifications, and urgent optics-related production issues.
Ensure all technical decisions align with factory strategy, quality standards, and long-term system robustness.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering, with strong relevance to:
Optics / Optical Engineering
Applied Physics (optics-focused)
Photonics / Electro-Optical Engineering
Electrical Engineering with strong optics exposure
Experience
5~8+ years of experience in semiconductor, electronics, or precision equipment industries.
Strong background in one or more of the following optics-related domains:
Optical module integration, alignment, or calibration.
Optical sensing, imaging systems, illumination paths, or interferometric principles.
Troubleshooting optics-related system behavior in production or development environments
Experience acting as a technical focal point, project lead, or senior technical contributor responsible for cross-team alignment and technical decision-making.
Skills & Competencies
Strong system-level understanding of optical behavior and its interaction with mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Proven ability to structure complex problems, assess risk, and drive technical decisions under production pressure.
Excellent English communication skills for escalation meetings, technical reporting, and stakeholder alignment.
Data-driven mindset with experience analyzing production or system data (specific tools not mandatory).
Proactive, ownership-driven, detail-oriented, open-minded, with strong logical reasoning capability.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with YieldStar, PAS5500, Reticle Handler, XT, or similar semiconductor equipment platforms.
Background in D&E optics roles or experience bridging R&D and manufacturing environments.
Familiarity with optical calibration methods, sensor characterization, or optical diagnostic workflows.
Exposure to structured RCA, engineering change processes (ECN), or reliability improvement initiatives.
Experience mentoring or coaching engineers in technical problem-solving.
Lean / Kaizen mindset and experience driving continuous improvement.
