Computer Science | Physics Internship: application development for scanner performance
Job Description
Introduction
The System Performance DUV is part of Performance & Integration cluster in Development & Engineering department. Our mission is to predict and optimize scanner performance by combining experimental results with simulations based on detailed module data. Within the Imaging competence, we focus on understanding the fundamental principles of our lithographic systems. This includes analyzing how key components — such as aberrations, focus, dose, illumination, dynamics, and more — contribute to imaging performance. We use these insights to build models that predict complete system behavior.
Your Assignment
We are building an automated data‑processing pipeline that converts raw scanner sensor data into performance predictions for imaging. Today this workflow involves multiple extraction and conversion steps that are time‑consuming and not fully standardized. Our goal is to bring all imaging‑related data analysis into a single, robust application for future performance assessments. As an intern, you will:
Develop a user-friendly Python-based graphical interface that enables the Imaging team to generate consistent scanner performance predictions.
Analyze the associated data and physics, identifying opportunities to improve prediction accuracy.
Integrate the tool into a larger internal project, gaining experience with database connections, GitHub workflows, testing setups, and standard modern development practices.
This is a Bachelor/Master internship for around 6 months, working minimum 4 days per week. This internship is not suitable for a thesis. The start date is around August/September.
Your Profile
To be a fit for this assignment, you:
Are busy with your bachelor's or master's in Computer Science, Physics, or a related field;
Have hands‑on experience with programming (Python is preferred);
Enjoy diving deep into technical challenges and understanding system behavior;
Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).
Other requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
