In order to support the Satcom Chief & Systems Engineering department from Connected Intelligence Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a
Chief Engineer for Future Upgrades of the German Military Satellite Communication System (d/f/m).

Your tasks and responsibilities
Technically ensure end-to-end technical coherence, overall compliance and performance of the solution through the entire life- cycle (from contract signature to in-service operation);
Identify the right Centres of Competence – CoC(s) and Enablers to provide technical solutions, knowledge or services that contribute towards the overall solution;
Collect and understand customers’ requirements, programme’s requirements and applicable obligations;
In collaboration with CoC(s):
derive the respective Concept of Operations (CONOPS) and the Product Breakdown Structure (PBS);
ensure that necessary links between PBS, Functional Breakdown Structure (FBS), Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) are considered;
allocate the contract requirements and cascade the necessary detail technical requirements, key decisions and milestones for the technical solutions delivered by the CoC(s).
Define, evaluate and decide on trade-offs, e.g. technical trade-offs, costs, value, manufacturing, service and risks, along cost level together with Programme and CoC(s);
Ensure overall product safety, security and reliability requirements are considered;
Conduct Technical Reviews along the whole product lifecycle and within individual technical solutions provided by CoC(s);
Manage and achieve accreditation / certification of the product, where necessary and appropriate, with the support of Enablers;
Tailor the processes, methods and tools at the appropriate level in collaboration with Quality project management;
Ensure the workload planning and related competency needs are in line with the CoC(s) capabilities;
Drive cost on non-quality in the lens of major non-conformances and quality escapes;
Management the changes in terms of impact analysis, adequate decisions and cascade to CoC(s);
Mitigate risks and opportunities and manage risk impact and allocate to CoC(s).
Desired skills and qualifications
Diploma or Master Degree in Engineering or equivalent and several years of professional experience;
System Engineering practices along the project life cycle and associated method and tools (standards, traceability, architecture framework, modelling, simulation)
Practical application of the both V-method and Agile frameworks (Certification is a plus);
Technical background in Satellite Communications and Information Systems;
Appetence for new ICTs and in Architecture of engineering services;
Practical application of fundamentals of Project Management in the respect of Quality, Time and Cost principles;
Practical knowledges of GE public procurement contract;
Good ability of listening and analysis of the operational needs and requirements;
Balanced ability in making trade-offs and in taking strong and controversial positions;
Capability to work with multidisciplinary, multicultural and multi-sites teams;
Editorial qualities and interpersonal skills to negotiate;
Discretion, leadership, team spirit, rigour and quality of organisation, diplomacy and good level of communication are necessary for this position;
Fluent German and English skills.
