This project will focus on the challenges and opportunities of High Voltage Electrical Systems, which are essential for next-generation, low-emission aircraft part of Airbus ambition to electrify the skies. 

As part of a fast-paced, agile team, you will help create a unique, state-of-the-art test facility from the ground up. Your mission will be to explore novel HV technologies at their limits and beyond, generating invaluable data and learnings needed to build the robust and reliable aircraft of tomorrow by safely testing the unsafe.

This position is based in Getafe ( Spain), and it comes with a limited contract linked to the delivrable of the demonstrator (estimated date end of April 2028)

 

Mission:

 As the E2E Bench Manager, reporting directly to the Technical Director, you own the Industrial Test Means pillar. You will act as a technical leader and people manager, guiding a dedicated team of engineers to deliver. You are responsible for the conception, design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the complex industrial electrical and mechanical equipment that constitutes the test facility in time and quality. You will ensure the facility can generate, distribute and dissipate HV power - up to 1500 VDC - while safely containing destructive failure events.

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead a high-performing team of 2-3 UpNext Test Means Engineers. You will define objectives, manage their workload and foster a “safety-first” culture within your squad.

  • Define the Test Bench Needs: Based on System Architectures provided by System Design Office and Test Intentions given by the E2E Test Manager, specify needed test bench requirements.

  • Test Means Development: Detailing the electrical and mechanical architecture and design of the bench. Lead the manufacturing and build of the facility core test capabilities including the electrical industrial equipment and the supporting systems linked to it and the test functions required, like industrial cooling, safe containers, environmental chambers, mechanical installation, UUT power wiring & signal cabling, Test Support System control / acquisition interconnection, etc.

  • Electrical Safety & Operations: Perform risk analysis and establish all required documentation for human safety related to your perimeter. Define the operational procedures for the test bench. Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and industrial regulations. You will act as the primary authority for procedures and safety during test means commissioning. Oversee the physical integration of the Test Cells, ensuring the proper integration between the building infrastructure and the test equipment.

  • Supplier Identification & Steering: Study the market selecting potential subcontractors. Perform Make / Buy trade-offs. Support call for tenders and negotiate technical proposals. Manage technical performance of external and internal suppliers delivering heavy electrical equipment and custom test rigs, ensuring adherence to Time, Cost, Quality objectives up to on-site acceptance test and in-service support activities.

  • In-Service Continuous Operability: Ensure by continuous improvements a high test means operational reliability once the Entry Into Service milestone is achieved. Plan, define and perform required maintenance tasks and define obsolescence management.

  • Risks & Opportunities: Identify and analyze risks & opportunities affecting E2E bench performance and/or capacity, implementing corrective and preventive actions agreed within stop/go reviews. 

The responsibilities and the technical scope of the job might evolve according to the agile working environment of the project, so being flexible is important.

What you bring: 

  • Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field. 10+ years of experience in the design, development integration and operation of complex Electrical Test Means or other relevant positions. Valid electrical safety habilitations or eligibility to obtain them under Spanish regulations.

  • Expertise in Test Means architectures, Power Electronics and Electrical Distribution. Knowledge in thermal management systems.

  • Proven experience leading small technical teams or functional groups. You know how to delegate effectively while remaining hands-on to solve complex technical problems.

  • Knowledge of R&T Electrical systems would be a very valuable asset. Passion about technology and science.

  • Professional network including industrial players, research institutions and consultants.

  • Language: English at negotiation level. Spanish would be an advantage since it is valued for managing local interfaces and regulations. 

  • Eagerness to take initiatives to propose simpler and efficient ways of working. Impatience and burning desire to attain rapidly, along with a healthy skepticism for progress. Ability to cope with short deadlines.
