Associate Shift Lead

Job Description

About Zipline

Zipline is the world’s largest and most experienced drone delivery service. We are on a mission to serve all humans equally by ensuring access to food, medicine and essential goods anytime, anywhere. We design, build, and operate the world’s largest autonomous logistics system, delivering critical supplies quickly and reliably. Today, Zipline operates on four continents, makes a delivery somewhere in the world every 30 seconds, and has completed millions of deliveries to date, including blood, vaccines, medical supplies, food, and retail products.

Our customers include the world’s largest and most prominent healthcare systems, governments, retailers, restaurants and global businesses who rely on us to save lives, reduce emissions, increase economic opportunity, and provide delivery from point A to point B as fast as possible. The drone is only 15% of what we’ve built to enable seamless, reliable, global operations.

Our system strengthens supply chains, reduces congestion, and gives people time back. With more than 140 million commercial autonomous miles safely flown, Zipline is redefining access to healthcare, consumer products, and food across the globe.

We operate at a global scale and are looking for practical problem solvers who thrive on real-world challenges and rapid growth. Our team is motivated by building systems that have a direct, meaningful impact on people’s lives and by scaling the future of logistics. We are seeking people who sculpt from first principles, enjoy facing adversity, and can do the impossible at record breaking speeds.

About You and The Role

Zipline’s service depends on aircraft that are safely maintained, accurately documented, and returned to Flight Operations with a clear status. As an Associate Shift Lead, you will primarily work as a Maintenance Technician while helping the Shift Lead plan work, coordinate the shop floor, support technicians, and deliver reliable shift turnover.

When assigned to cover the Shift Lead, you own safe execution of that shift: prioritizing and rebalancing work, addressing barriers, maintaining accurate aircraft status, and handing off completed work, open risks, and next priorities. The Shift Lead retains overall leadership responsibility; your coverage keeps maintenance execution controlled and visible.

What You'll Do

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled UAS maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and component replacement using approved manuals, task cards, and maintenance procedures.
  • Help execute daily maintenance plans by coordinating scheduled work, unscheduled needs, staffing, parts, tooling, work areas, and operational priorities.
  • Support shift briefings, technician assignments, task coordination, and work rebalancing as maintenance requirements, delays, or operational priorities change.
  • Provide technicians practical guidance on approved procedures, technical judgment, accountability, and procedural compliance.
  • When covering the Shift Lead, set shift priorities, assign work, remove execution barriers, and ensure safe, compliant aircraft returns or clear status for unresolved aircraft.
  • Stop unsafe or noncompliant work; document and escalate quality, engineering, release, or aircraft-availability constraints to the appropriate owner.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Control, Engineering, Flight Operations, Materials, Quality, and maintenance teams; produce accurate maintenance records and turnover reports.

What You'll Bring

  • A Zipline Repairman Certificate or FAA A&P certificate, with ability to maintain required certifications, qualifications, and continuing training.
  • Experience performing maintenance and supporting work planning, technician priorities, or task execution in an active maintenance or production environment.
  • Mechanical and electrical integration, assembly, troubleshooting, and precision hand-tool experience, plus basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
  • Ability to read and follow technical manuals, maintenance procedures, task cards, and regulatory documentation with precision.
  • Sound judgment to identify execution risks, coordinate work, and provide clear direction when serving in shift-lead coverage.
  • Clear verbal and written communication for shift briefings, cross-functional coordination, maintenance records, and turnover reporting.
  • Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as operationally required, and travel within the service area for on-site maintenance when needed.
