Job Description

About Zipline

Zipline is the world’s largest and most experienced drone delivery service. We are on a mission to serve all humans equally by ensuring access to food, medicine and essential goods anytime, anywhere. We design, build, and operate the world’s largest autonomous logistics system, delivering critical supplies quickly and reliably. Today, Zipline operates on four continents, makes a delivery somewhere in the world every 30 seconds, and has completed millions of deliveries to date, including blood, vaccines, medical supplies, food, and retail products.

Our customers include the world’s largest and most prominent healthcare systems, governments, retailers, restaurants and global businesses who rely on us to save lives, reduce emissions, increase economic opportunity, and provide delivery from point A to point B as fast as possible. The drone is only 15% of what we’ve built to enable seamless, reliable, global operations.

Our system strengthens supply chains, reduces congestion, and gives people time back. With more than 140 million commercial autonomous miles safely flown, Zipline is redefining access to healthcare, consumer products, and food across the globe.

We operate at a global scale and are looking for practical problem solvers who thrive on real-world challenges and rapid growth. Our team is motivated by building systems that have a direct, meaningful impact on people’s lives and by scaling the future of logistics. We are seeking people who sculpt from first principles, enjoy facing adversity, and can do the impossible at record breaking speeds.

About You and The Role

Zipline’s service depends on aircraft being maintained safely, documented accurately, and returned to Flight Operations with a clear status. As a working Maintenance Shift Lead, you will own the shift plan and shop-floor execution, helping technicians complete the right work safely and meet established return-to-service targets.

You will set priorities, supervise maintenance, remove execution barriers, and provide an accurate turnover to the next shift. You can reprioritize work and stop work when safety, procedural, quality, or documentation concerns arise; coordinate aircraft status with Maintenance Control and Flight Operations; and escalate release, quality, engineering, or availability constraints to the appropriate owners.

What You'll Do

  • Build and execute the daily maintenance plan around scheduled work, unscheduled needs, staffing, parts, tooling, work areas, and operational priorities.
  • Lead shift briefings, assign technician work, and rebalance tasks as maintenance requirements, delays, or operational priorities change.
  • Supervise task execution and coach technicians on approved procedures, technical judgment, accountability, and procedural compliance.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled UAS maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and component replacement using approved manuals, task cards, and maintenance procedures.
  • Stop unsafe or noncompliant work, document the issue, and escalate quality, engineering, release, or aircraft-availability constraints to the appropriate team.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Control, Engineering, Flight Operations, Materials, Quality, and maintenance teams to resolve blockers and maintain clear aircraft status.
  • Produce accurate maintenance records and end-of-shift turnover reports covering completed work, open issues, risks, aircraft status, and incoming priorities.

What You'll Bring

  • A Zipline Repairman Certificate or FAA A&P certificate, and the ability to maintain required certifications, qualifications, and continuing training.
  • Experience leading work planning, technician priorities, and task execution in an active maintenance or production environment.
  • Mechanical and electrical integration, assembly, troubleshooting, and precision hand-tool experience, with basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
  • Ability to read and follow technical manuals, maintenance procedures, task cards, and regulatory documentation with precision.
  • Clear verbal and written communication for shift briefings, cross-functional coordination, and accurate production and turnover reporting.
  • Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as operationally required, and travel within the service area for on-site maintenance when needed.
  • Aircraft or UAS maintenance, regulated maintenance operations, shift leadership, or technician-coaching experience is preferred.
