Senior Staff Data Architect

Job Description

Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. We embody cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence in advanced robotics, quickly moving from the research lab into increasingly impactful roles across industrial spaces.

The Information Technology Department at Boston Dynamics seeks a Data Architect to lead the design and evolution of our modern data platform.  We’re looking for someone who thrives in the Snowflake ecosystem and has a knack for weaving complex integrations together.

As a Data Architect, you won't just be managing databases; you’ll be the blueprint designer for how our organization handles one of its most valuable assets. You’ll leverage GCP for scale and MuleSoft to ensure our data flows seamlessly across the enterprise.

You will partner with the Enterprise Applications leadership to define and execute the overarching data strategy and IT roadmap. As a Data Architect, you will lead the end-to-end architectural lifecycle from conceptualizing complex data models and high-level solution designs to governing the integration frameworks and security standards that underpin our global systems.

You will serve as the technical authority for our core data stack, optimizing our Snowflake environment. Your vision will provide the foundational structure for critical business domains, including Finance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, HR, Go-To-Market, and of course, Robotics teams, ensuring a scalable and unified data ecosystem.

How you will make an impact:

  • Platform Architecture: Lead the technical design and roadmap for a scalable Snowflake data warehouse, focusing on performance optimization, warehouse sizing, and cost-governance.

  • Integration Strategy: Define enterprise integration patterns and collaborate with data engineers to ensure high-availability pipelines between core business systems and the cloud platform.

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Architect the deployment of GCP-native services to support secure and efficient data movement, storage, and event-driven processing.

  • Data Modeling Standards: Establish and enforce organizational standards (e.g., Data Vault, Star Schema) to ensure long-term data integrity and usability.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as the primary technical liaison between IT and business stakeholders to translate complex logic into sustainable technical solutions.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Snowflake Expertise: 5+ years designing and implementing Snowflake solutions (Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks, and Warehouse Management).

  • SQL Mastery: Advanced SQL for complex transformations and performance tuning.

  • Data Modeling: Expert proficiency in dimensional modeling and architectural patterns for large-scale data environments.

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with GCP, specifically utilizing GCS for staging, Pub/Sub for messaging, and Cloud Functions for serverless processing.

  • Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical specifications.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • MuleSoft Integration: Experience designing APIs and integrations via MuleSoft to facilitate data movement between ERP/CRM systems and the data lake.

  • Python/Java: Proficiency in at least one programming language for Snowpark functions.

  • Snowpro Certification: Holding a Snowflake Core or Architect certification is a plus.

  • DevOps/DataOps: Experience with CI/CD pipelines (dbt, GitHub Actions, or Terraform) for managing data infrastructure as code.

  • Security Mindset: Familiarity with data masking, RBAC, and compliance standards (GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC2).

We are interested in all qualified candidates eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.

The base pay range for this position is between $116,000.00 to $160,000.00 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  This range represents a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and an annual bonus structure.  Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment.
