
Senior Field Application Engineer
Job Description
As a Field Application Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering Boston Dynamics robotic solutions to our customers, ensuring their seamless integration and operational success. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of activities, including collaborating closely with customers to align system capabilities with their operational needs and designing site-specific solutions. You will travel up to 50% to customer sites and oversee the site-level solution architecture and commissioning of Boston Dynamics robotic systems, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with customer goals. Furthermore, you will implement scalable solutions that cater to both individual integrations and the growth of customer accounts, while also managing network infrastructure and configuration for robust system connectivity. Your expertise will also be crucial in monitoring system performance, resolving technical issues through advanced troubleshooting, and providing comprehensive customer training and support. Additionally, you will lead technical projects that enhance integration efficiency, standardize processes, and drive continuous improvement, while also supporting the early-stage testing and integration of new Boston Dynamics products. You will proactively gather, systematize, and convey customer feedback to internal teams, champion product enhancements, and steer customer-focused solutions, closely working with product and engineering teams. Throughout your work, you will ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations, develop SOWs and customer success documentation, and deliver comprehensive customer training.

Day-to-day activities:
Oversee customer account management, handling technical aspects, and ensuring seamless project execution from start to finish.
Lead system integrations, validations, and field tests, independently managing system configurations and readiness.
Own the creation of detailed SOWs, updating Customer Solution Documents, Interface Control Documents, and Integration Scoping Documents.
Manage external-facing project documentation, including network architecture and equipment configuration, ensuring smooth integration and operational success.
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex field support issues, optimizing integrations and resolving challenges.
Conduct in-depth operational troubleshooting and repairs, performing root cause analysis and coordinating with experts for solutions.
Analyze encrypted log data to identify patterns and inform problem-solving decisions.
Perform root cause analysis for complex issues, collaborating with engineering to implement permanent fixes or workarounds.
Act as the product expert for Boston Dynamics' full product stack, supporting customers and team members with advanced technical insights.
Oversee hardware and software validation, ensuring pre-shipment systems are optimized for integration.
Develop technical tools and solutions using APIs/SDKs to streamline customer integrations and address specific challenges.
Provide advanced technical support and training for customer and partner development teams using BD’s API/SDK.
Act as the primary technical contact for customers, addressing their needs, resolving concerns, and driving application success.
Collect and communicate customer feedback to internal teams, advocating for product improvements and customer-centric solutions.
Develop and deliver advanced training for customers and partners, focusing on complex integrations and advanced features.
Participate in go-to-market activities for new products and technologies, collaborating with product, engineering, and sales teams.
Desired skills:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, System Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related field
A minimum of 2 years of related experience or an advanced degree without experience, or equivalent work experience, is typically required.
Proven track record in senior-level Field Applications Engineering, Solution Architecture, or System Design roles, with experience leading complex integrations
Extensive experience directly collaborating with customers on delivering advanced technical solutions and managing long-term relationships
Expertise in planning, managing, and executing multi-site or complex integrations of Boston Dynamics products, including both hardware and software systems
Ability to lead discussions and convey highly technical concepts to diverse audiences, including executive stakeholders, technical teams, and non-technical teams.
Nice to Have:
Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable software applications.
Advanced knowledge of networking protocols, devices, and network security (routers, switches, firewalls, VLANs, VPNs)
Proficiency in Linux operating systems (Ubuntu) and scripting for system management and automation
Proficiency in Python, C++, Typescript, Kotlin, or other modern programming languages, with a strong focus on software development for robotics or automation
Travel:
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time.
Ability to utilize personal credit cards for travel expenses, with subsequent reimbursement.

The pay range for this position is between $88,603.82 to $121,830.26 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental vision, 401(k), paid time off and a annual bonus structure.
