Job Description
Introduction to the job
This is a high-impact opportunity to play a senior technical role in the startup, ramp, and maturation of Applications Engineering support for a new US-based advanced-node customer. You will contribute to establishing Applications Engineering capability for a development line in Texas and a future high-volume manufacturing (HVM) site.
As a Senior Applications Engineer, you will be among the initial cohort of engineers responsible for enabling site success. You will build strong customer relationships and drive technical execution from early wafer introduction through pilot-line execution and ramp to volume.
You will be assigned to a primary platform (e.g., YieldStar, EUV, DUV) or project area (e.g., NPI Startup, New Technology Projects), with responsibility for on-product performance within your scope. You will collaborate closely with Applications, Equipment, and customer engineering teams to ensure successful node transfer and ramp execution.
This position is initially based in Austin, TX, and will transition toward the future HVM location as the customer footprint expands. During the initial phase, you may travel to other ASML and customer sites to build platform expertise, support process transfer, and learn system configurations.
You will report to the local Applications Manager and work within a broader network of Applications Engineers across regions, leveraging global best known methods (BKMs) and expertise.
Role and responsibilities
This role requires strong ownership of technical deliverables, disciplined execution, and the ability to operate independently while collaborating across ASML and customer organizations. As a Senior Applications Engineer, you will lead technical problem solving and project execution within your scope and contribute to broader team outcomes.
You will:
Lead technical execution for your assigned platform or project area (e.g., YieldStar applications performance, control loops, or metrology optimization)
Own workstreams within larger cross-functional programs, including NPI, pilot-line execution, and ramp-to-volume readiness
Serve as a key technical interface between ASML and the customer for on-product performance topics
Translate customer challenges into structured problem statements and actionable solutions
Drive alignment with local teams, global stakeholders, and ASML headquarters to ensure effective issue resolution
Execution Phases:
Initial phase: Build platform expertise, support process transfer, and develop understanding of customer configurations and operating models
Pilot-line phase: Support tool qualification, wafer introduction, and performance stabilization
Ramp-to-volume: Drive yield improvement, process optimization, and sustaining performance
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Lead or drive technical projects supporting new node introduction or ramp of existing technologies
Own and execute project plans, track progress, and communicate updates to internal and customer stakeholders
Define and conduct experiments in collaboration with customers to validate performance and demonstrate product value
Analyze large datasets from scanner and metrology tools to identify performance drivers and improvement opportunities
Translate on-product issues into lithography or metrology-related problem statements and drive resolution
Optimize YieldStar and scanner performance through data-driven insights and control strategies
Partner with product, system engineering, and project teams to influence product improvements and tool configurations
Prepare and deliver technical presentations, including to customer technical leadership
Contribute to identifying new applications opportunities aligned with customer needs
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team
Education and experience
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field
Minimum 8 years of experience in IC manufacturing, lithography, metrology, or process technology
Experience supporting NPI, ramp, or high-volume manufacturing environments
Strong experience in data analysis and coding (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R, JMP)
Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead technical workstreams
Experience collaborating across cross-functional and global teams
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities applied to complex semiconductor processes
Ability to interpret large datasets and derive actionable insights
Structured approach to experimentation and hypothesis-driven problem solving
Hands-on experience with programming and data analysis tools
Ability to lead technical workstreams and influence without formal authority
Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong collaboration within matrixed and global environments
Proactive ownership and accountability for deliverables
High level of initiative and self-direction
Adaptability in fast-paced and evolving environments
Continuous learning mindset and drive for technical growth
Attention to quality, detail, and execution discipline
Other information
Role is based primarily onsite at ASML and customer locations
Some work will be conducted in a cleanroom environment
Up to ~30% travel required, with potential for higher travel during initial onboarding and startup phases
Training may include international locations (e.g., Taiwan, the Netherlands)
Ability to work under time-sensitive conditions and support critical milestone.
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
