Job Overview

We are seeking an ambitious and collaborative Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to support our fast-growing operations across Mission Services covering R&D Testing, Depot Repairs, Services, Fulfilment, and Distribution. This role will primarily support operations on the U.S. West Coast (California) and the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, with a focus on Australia.

This position provides a unique opportunity to partner with multiple operational teams responsible for testing and servicing autonomous surface vessels across geographically diverse and highly regulated environments. The EHS Specialist will support the development, implementation, and management of critical EHS programs and training to ensure compliance with U.S. (federal and California-specific) and Australian regulatory frameworks, while promoting a culture of learning and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Support environmental compliance programs in California and Australia, including:

  • Air permits and emissions compliance (e.g., CARB/local air districts, Australian state regulations)

  • Hazardous and industrial waste management

  • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and equivalent Australian stormwater requirements

  • Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans and inspections

  • Coordinate with local site teams and external consultants to ensure compliance with EPA, CalEPA, and Australian environmental authorities

  • Assist with environmental reporting, inspections, and record keeping across regions

  • Support development and management of EHS programs across U.S. West Coast and APAC operations, including:

  • Boat and Water Safety (including maritime operations in U.S. and Australian waters)

  • Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Ergonomics

  • Powered Industrial Trucks, Hazard Communication

  • Cranes and Rigging, Electrical and Battery Safety

  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and energy isolation

  • Emergency Action Plans aligned with local regulatory requirements

  • Conduct safety meetings, presentations, trainings, committees, shift stand-ups, and GEMBA walk-throughs across multiple time zones and locations

  • Support the creation and standardization of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) across global operations

  • Lead hazard control implementation, including coordination with vendors and cross-regional project teams

  • Leead EHS event investigations and learning analyses; track and drive corrective actions globally

  • Respond to employee health or safety emergencies and support activation of site-specific emergency procedures

  • Evaluate work practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA (including Cal/OSHA) and Australian WHS (Work Health and Safety) regulations

  • Submit, track, and manage EHS continuous improvement initiatives across regions

  • Address and document safety concerns both in the field and through formal reporting systems

  • Deliver EHS training to employees at all levels, including region-specific regulatory training requirements

  • Support EHS team initiatives such as regulatory reporting, inspections, audits, emergency drills, and management system improvements

  • Monitor and communicate updates on U.S. (federal/California) and Australian EHS regulations, standards, and industry best practices

  • Develop and track individual and team objectives and key results (OKRs) aligned with global EHS goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, public health, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in EHS, preferably in maritime, aerospace, defense, or general manufacturing or industrial environments.

Additional Requirements

  • Role requires approximately 30% travel, including:

  • Periodic travel within California and other U.S. sites

  • Periodic international travel to Australia and APAC locations

  • Ability to support flexible working hours to collaborate across U.S. and APAC time zones

  • Position may require overtime and weekend work as needed

  • Ability to lift 35 lbs unassisted
