UAS Test Pilot

Compensation
$65,000–$90,000/year

Job Description

The Problem

As Flock accelerates the deployment of Drone as First Responder systems, operational reliability and performance under diverse flight conditions are essential to support real-time public safety operations. Rigorously testing hardware integrations and evaluating custom flight behavior requires dedicated flight leadership in the field. You will pilot test flights, troubleshoot physical and system performance, and evaluate raw flight data so our airborne platforms operate with absolute precision.

What You'll Own

  • Serve as Pilot in Command for experimental UAS flight testing, field evaluations, and mission simulations across varied weather conditions.

  • Evaluate aircraft performance, hardware stability, and software integration during active test routines.

  • Perform physical diagnostics, system troubleshooting, and post-flight evaluations on complex drone hardware and software systems.

  • Document flight metrics, maintain precise flight logs, and deliver technical write-ups to engineering teams.

  • Partner with technical stakeholders to refine flight testing procedures and implement risk management standards.

What This Role is Not

  • This isn't a desk-bound or purely simulated testing role, you'll be outdoors in field operations over 70% of the time.

  • This is not a routine commercial piloting job, you'll actively test experimental systems, diagnose hardware issues, and stress-test custom UAV technology.

  • This isn't a remote position, you will be on-site at our facilities in Atlanta with up to 25% domestic travel.

What You Bring

  • Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and a thorough understanding of FAA regulations and safety protocols.

  • Practical flight experience as a pilot in command, specifically within experimental UAS development and diverse multirotor or fixed-wing platforms.

  • Hands-on proficiency in drone diagnostics, troubleshooting physical hardware, and assessing software interactions during flight.

  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods during outdoor field testing and lift up to 55 lbs of operational hardware and gear.

  • Clear communication skills to translate complex flight anomalies and data into actionable engineering reports.

  • Experience with custom flight control systems or experimental aircraft telemetry is a plus.
