Code Research Engineer

Horizons is responsible for Gemini’s Code, Thinking, and Reasoning performance.
The Role
Key responsibilities:
- Design experiments and evaluations to improve Gemini’s SWE capabilities
- Create evaluations to measure key software engineering capabilities.
- Responsibilities may include creating evaluations to measure Gemini’s capabilities as a software engineer, running RL experiments to improve them, and designing novel agent harnesses & agentic capabilities.
- Build infrastructure components necessary to facilitate research.
- Work with a cross-functional research & infrastructure team.
In order to set you up for success as a Research Engineer at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:
Requirements:
- Understanding of LLMs & recent RL methodology
- Experience running ML experiments
- Experience developing LLM-based agents
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
- Systematic thinker and engineer who find joy in traversing the full stack.
- Positive, gritty technologist who can overcome ambiguity and pressure to deliver what is sought by users in a short time frame.
- Rigorous and meticulous analyst who will want nothing but the best datasets / experiments they can curate.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $147,000 USD - 211,000 USD + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
